Have any of you guys that have tried this to strip plastic minis had any experience of it melting them?
I've had a go and after getting most of the paint off, it looks like the plastic is bubbling. This could be the gunk that's left though. Not sure.

I've used Dettol before, with absolutely no damage to the miniatures, even after leaving them in it for over a week. Make sure you don't dillute it with water though, as it counteracts the effects of the Dettol on the paint.

Does it turn spray primer opaque? It just looked like plastic was left, but it was bubbly.
I've let them dry now, there is a white layer of something left (even though I used black undercoat)

Well, I have used cheap deodorant to decent effect.. can't say I have ever used dettol though.
You just spray a load of it on the model and scrub it off with a toothbrush- do it in a ventilated area though (it stinks!).
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Jack.

That could just be a powdery residue.
I find that the best way of stripping minis is to use an electric toothbrush and nailpolish remover, sometimes the normal stuff can screw up your minis, so I generally go for the sensitive stuff first and test it on an unimportant mini to see what the results are. If the sensitive skin stuff doesn;t work, crank it up a notch to the full out nail cleaning stuff.

Well I use a white primer so I don't know if the black primer would turn white. But after my Dettol bath, the paint turned into a gooey mess you could easily remove with an old toothbrush (the hard kind) and some cotton buds. After that the regular unpainted grey plastic showed, with some white stuff left in the recesses I couldn't reach.
I'm not sure if there's multiple kinds of Dettol out there, but the one you want has chloroxylenol as the active ingredient. Oh, and the smell will linger for weeks, so don't do it in the kitchen like I did.

You get the gooey mess off easily? I found that it turned the paint really oily, so scrubbing with a tooth brush just spread it around. I've taken to dipping my toothbrush in white spirit to make the paint easier to get off

Yeah it was pretty easy to get off, as long as you don't dillute the Dettol with water, as the water turns the paint back in, well, paint.

I use brake fluid. takes a couple of days to soak in on thick paint.
I forgot about some mini's that I put in a tub of brake fluid and pulled them out over six months later. it's all good!

Lots of brake fluids are okish on metal miniatures, but they eat through plastic ones, so be careful with that. Also, as it is ecologically unfriendly, you can't dispose it easily.
There's a nice article right here on dakka about stripping by kutzmon btw:
