OK, I have a question after re-looking through the Ork dex.

Under Kommandos it says that a Kommando can be upgraded for a Nob for +10 points. Then it says that instead of a Nob, Kommandos can be lead by Snikrot for 85 points.

My question is this, does that mean that Snikrot and 9 Kommandos (total of 10) is 185 (10 Kommandos +85 to upgrade Snikrot) or 175 (9 Kommandos + a flat 85 for Snikrot)?

I have never used them in a tourney list and was just wondering the right way to calculate the points. I normaly just spend the 100 for 10 Kommandos + 85 to upgrade Snikrot, but now I think I have been cheating myself out of 10 points.

I dont think you need to add in the extra 10 nob points if you are using snikrot

I agree with LunaHound that you would not need to buy a nob. The important part is quoted below:

instead of a Nob

With this quote in mind, you do not have to buy a nob to lead a bunch of Kommandos.

I think you're misunderstanding the question. Alerian isn't wanting to know if you pay for a Nob and then Snikrot, he wants to know if Snikrot is purchased as a single model for 85 points, or if he is an upgrade model, and is purchased for 85 points as an upgrade to a 10 point model.

Personally, I think that you pay 85 points for a snikrot model. So a mob with ten models would be 90 points for 9 models, + 85 points for one Snikrot model. (plus burnas to taste)

I actually think that you pay 85 points to upgrade a kommando to Snikrot for a total of 5-15 models, not a total of 6-16.

The only argument I have for this is that it does say "Instead of a Nob and unit may be lead by..." This infers to me that instead of upgrading to a nob for 10, you upgrade to snikrot for 85 for a maximum of 15 models in the squad.

As far as I know (though I have been mistaken) purchasing a leader to a squad does not mean adding the leader model, then it should (but this is GW) be worded similar to IG advisers, that a Master of the Fleet is added to the squad and so on.

Currently Play/Own
= 3500 = 3500 = 4000 = 2500 = 1000 = 500 = 3000 = 2000 = 1000 = 2500 = 1500

Orkestra understands my question.

I need to know if I have to pay 10 points for a kommando, then upgrade him to Snikrot, or if I I pay a straight 85 points for Snikrot, without buying a Kommando first.

I am not asking if I can have 16 models in a unit; I am simply asking if the total cost for Snikrot is 85 or 95 points.

He's basically 95pts. You have to buy the model to upgrade.

Ok, I see what your saying... Yes, you pay 10 points per model, and then you upgrade one of them to Snikrot. For example, a fifteen unit of kommandos would be:

150 points for 15 Kommandos
85 points for upgrading him to Snikrot

For a total of 235 (if my math is right)..

Exactly. Any same stands for the stormboy character and I think there is a flashgitz upgrade character as well. They are basically named sergeants.

Does it actually say to upgrade a normal commando into snikrot? The phrase that unit may be led by snikrot instead of a nob does NOT infer that you have to pay the points for the regular kommando to upgrade into snikrot. It only infers that if you take snikrot, you cannot take a nob. If it just says that the unit may be led by snikrot for an additional 85 points, then you only pay 85 points him. He would be a character that is purchased in place of upgrading a kommando to a nob. He would not have to be an upgrade to a regular kommando unless it specifically states so.

You know what, I think I stand corrected, Journey is right in that it does not say that a kommando is upgraded to snikrot. That being said, I would still argue that snikrot still counts towards the 5-15 models that limit squad size. So I will change my previous statement to

140 for 14 kommandos
85 for snikrot

for a total 225.

The codex does not have an option to upgrade a kommando to snikrot, it's an extra model.
The instead only means that you can't have both a nob and snikrot.

"ANY" includes the special ones

Agreed. He's another model entirely (and as such it can be argued that you can take one more model in the squad than otherwise), and his total cost is 85 pts.

Cool, thanks guys.

It appears that I have been overpayig for Snikrot by 10 points. I am glad I asked!

To be safe on the tourny list, I would compose two (one at 85 points and one with him at 10+85) just in case the TO has a different opinion and ask before hand.

He's not an upgrade. He's a separate purchase. You don't have to buy a kommando first.

I've played this way the whole time with the new dex and I've never had a problem with it.

He's a seperate purchase in the ork codex, you may not have a nob and snikrot tho, as only 1 of the 2 may lead the squad.
