I'm new around here, and not only to Dakka Dakka but also to the game of Warhammer 40,000.
I got Assault on Black Reach about a month ago and I've barely started with it.
Unfortunately it was the only thing I could afford so I'm hoping for Christmas I will get Chaos Space Marines. My friends who play WH40K have been really nice and have lent me plastic cutters and even some glue!
By the way, I'm from Australia!

G'day, and good choice with the Chaos Space Marines - great option. And the added advantage that your AoBR space marine models can be chaosified readily!

That's what I was thinking. My friend Luke who got the CSM Battleforce is going really well compared to the people in our club using the space marines from AoBR.
Would the right thing to do be to get modelling putty like green stuff or to buy bitz from sites like BitzBox?

Also, thanks for the welcoming. I already feel at home here, with lots of threads and people this place must never get boring.

Luke?
You mean Luke from the Sunshine Coast?

Me and Luke are from Melbourne and Luke went to Queensland recently for a holiday, so perhaps.
Did he meet you? He is in year 5 like me and my friends.

Hi Mate - If you are starting, and want a renegade force that is not Nurgle specific, I would stick to mixing bits from SM & CSM (Nurgle is more forgiving to beginning greenstuffers so go for your life if thats where you want to go!). If you have a CSM battleforce, you will have a large number of left over bits you can use to add chaos to your existing space marine models.

Also, if you go an established 'renegade legion' like the red corsairs led by Huron, people will almost expect to see CSM mixed with Chaos legion.

Finally, if you are clever about it, you can try for a 'Soul Drinkers' legion (based on books I havent read - check google for info or better yet do a search in these galleries - Im sure someone has done a version). these guys are a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter (therefore can arguably be played using Space Marine Rules), who are a little tainted by chaos (thereby allowing you to use CSM rules). Remember, not both rules at the same time tho! This just gives you flexibility.

Cheers

@Zaxter: Nope, probably the wrong Luke. The Luke I'm talking about pretty much runs our FLGS up here (with MY help). Luke's a pretty common name, sorry about that.

I will probably be getting Dark Angels because I would prefer getting them over nurgle which I would most likely have to get if I wanted to get CSM. Nurgle are the easiest to convert to by just get some packs and green stuff and splattering it all over them. Dark Angels are still a traitors sort of.
Sorry if I'm not allowed to bump old threads.
