Subject: Need Help with 1,750pt Death Guard Army

Numberless Necron Warrior

Hello everyone, I've been modeling for over a year now and want to start to actually play the game. My favorite army is Death Guard CSM, and I have an entire army nearly completed but need help in its organization and composition as a well-rounded army! Any suggestions will be considered.
I know there are probably some problems with the list, please be nice as I am new to the game. Also, I was thinking another Daemon Prince of Nurgle might be better than the Chaos Lord, plus it looks much more cool! Does a Chaos Lord have any benefits over a Daemon Prince? Should I have more transport vehicles?
HQ- Daemon Prince of Nurgle (145)
Wings
Nurgle's Rot
HQ-Chaos Lord (170)
Mark of Nurgle

Flying Nurlge Princes are a solid choice. A problem with yours though. First, you didn't pay for his Mark of Nurgle. As far as powers, most people take Warptime, but if you want Rot go ahead.

I'd replace this guy with another Daemon Prince. The daemon prince would add more to target saturation, is tougher, stronger, immune to instand death, has a higher WS, and gets a psyhic power.

Grab a rhino for these fellers. I'd also take a Personal Icon for the oblits.

Solid choice, these are very flexible.

I'd drop this for the Rhinos and more oblits.
So, your list with my suggested changes would look like this.
HQ- Daemon Prince of Nurgle (165)
Wings
Nurgle's Rot
Mark of Nurgle

That leaves you with 21 points for misc. grubbins (or upgrading to warptime on the DP).
Overall, you have a very strong list, it just needs transports.

good list. the backbone for me is at least 4 PM squads with 2 meltas, a combi melta on a PF champ in rhinos. warptime really is the best psychic power IMO, when you need to hit its really on point.

I don't much see the point in spliting up your Oblits that way, sqauds of 3 work fine.
And I agree with studderingdave,at least one DP should have warptime,I also have to agree with RustyKnight in that you need more transports.
Automatically Appended Next Post: On a positive note,it's nice to see people attempting to play Death Guard and not "Plauge Marines with a lash prince =death guard",you have a solid troop base, wich is the foundation of every Death Guard army.

I usually run squads of 2 oblits and they do okay. I wouldn't do just one unless you are using it as a deep striking suicide unit to nail something important. Sure I'd run squads of three if I had the points to use 9, but if I'm using only 6 oblits I'd rather run them in three squads.

I should have been a bit more clear as to what I was getting at,I didn't see the point in the 2 / 2 / 1 split ( unless as you said,he plans on "suiciding" the lone oblit),in the configuration in questioun 2 sqauds of 3/2just seems to be a better idea to me.

Thanks for all the help so far. I'm loving the new list configuration, the only reason why I was swaying for the Land Raider is because I had bought some FW Death Guard Land Raider doors and wanted to use them. I guess it doesn't make much sense not to have a transport for all squads.
Yeah, I hate the GW Plague Marine miniatures, I went with FW conversion kits all the way. I'll upload some pictures some time when they're completely finished!
By the way, are oblits better than Terminators?

I have one of those conversion kits myself. It's really sweet. I think Oblits are better than Terms. Yes, two oblits are equal to 5 terms in price: but you still need to buy wargear for those terms to be very effective. Oblits are so versatile, able to bring the best weapon to bear every turn. They fight like terms in hand to hand too (although that is not their strong suit). And don't forget that 2 oblits = 4 wounds. So really you're losing 1 wound and a handful of power fist attacks for being able to take any heavy weapon you want. Also, your Oblits are really well protected by the Plague Marines. Your opponent only has so much plasma weapons to shoot. If he shoots the Oblits, he's not shooting your Plague Marines with weapons that go through FNP. If he shoots the Plague Marines, he's leaving your Firebase alone. A classic no win situation.

Any time.
A point on your Oblit squad numbers. I myself run 2 squads of 2 at 1500pts. However, if you take 5, I'd advise going with the 2/2/1 set up. Here's why. In Seize Ground or Capture and Control, if your 1 man Oblit Deep Strikes late in the game, he can contest an objective. If you force your opponent to deal with him, you're pulling fire away from the remainder of your forces. In Annihilation games, you would think the extra kill point would be a problem. But, you can put him in reserves again to protect him early. You can even screen him with other units once he enters play. It looks like an easy kill point, until it has a 2+/4++ save and 2 wounds. I think the lone Deep Strike offers you so much tactical flexibility that it is worth it.
