On page 132 of the SM codex, it states that 'the Captain may exchange his bolt pistol and/or chainsword for...'

So...can I exchange his chainsword for a plasma pistol? If so, can he fire both in the same shooting phase?

I now its kind of a silly question, but I have a really good idea for a custom conversion, and I dont want to go to all
the trouble of doing the work only to find out he isn't field legal.

Well since it states that you may trade in the chainsword for a plasma pistol at 15 points, I would imagine that he can fire both in the shooting phase and count as having two CC weapons in assault.

If you walk a mile in another mans shoes you will be a mile away from him and you will have his shoes.

Infantry can only fire one weapon per shooting phase, unless they have a USR that grants otherwise.

no, only monstrous creatures, vehicles, and certain Tau units with special rules can fire more than one weapon per shooting phase.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

In addition to comments given by BlueDagger and Drunkspleen, I would think your captain would still benefit from having two CCWs in assaults.

Yes he would benifit from the +1 attack in CC because of rules on pg 37 of the brb. Unfortunately they do not get to shoot both of them during the shooting phase as the others have described.

If he comes with BP and Chainsword, wouldn't he already have 2 CCW's? since you're replacing a CCW with another one?

Yes, but KaloranSLC's point is that he isn't disadvantaged by giving him a second pistol.

So he couldn't fire both at once, but he could fire either one in each of his shooting phases, yes?

That's right. Though if you give him a plasma pistol, as you mention in your original post, I cannot think (offhand) of a situation when you wouldn't use it instead of the BP

I just knew as I hit 'submit' that someone would be able to think of a circumstance.

Although as he may replace his BP with a second plasma pistol, he will have a backup plasma pistol in case the first one overheats.

Why would he need the backup plasma pistol? Overheating does not destroy the gun.

My original wording was shoddy, what I meant when I started the thread was arming him with a bolt pistol and a plasma pistol.
