The battle took place over a 4 x 4 board which made even a 1000pts army deployment zone cramped! Neither my Imperial guard nor my opponents Renegades were using tanks which kept things even.

I deployed my ratlings in two squads of five covering either flank of the board and used infiltrate to deploy them after my opponent had set up. They won the day for my Imperial Guard force. They pinned down his heavy weapons teams which failed to fire a single shot until turn three, by then my advancing infantry was close enough to hit them with disciplined volleys of lasgun fire and then burnt the heretic forces that were left.

Without the Ratlings my force would have been chewed to pieces by concentrated heavy bolter fire and subsequently I would have lost the day. Their heroics didn't stop there, once my own troops had depleted the enemy heavy bolters I felt my luck was running out, it surely did... a bit. The renegade reinforcements consisted of two squads of Rough Riders. when they deployed in turn four I concentrated my Ratling fire and reduced 10 to 2!

Ratlings... who'd have though 100 points could be so effectively spent!

Imperial guard 7

vs

Renegade guard 4

I'm still amazed and my opponent still reeling... Ratlings!!!

Ya the cheapest most effective snipers in the game work wonders I think specially in smaller games.
