My friend and I are in an escalation league that's just starting out and we decided to play some 500pters with force org.

yeah I know- not supposed to but hey? AIO: ADAPT IMPROVISE OVERCOME

So my Necron list was fairly straightforward. 2 Troops and a Destroyer Lord w/ warscythe

My friend played Imp guard ...yeah.
He had Marbo with his demo charge, a chimera packing a Hvy-Flamer and the multi-laser with a vet squad inside packing some plasma guns, a commissar, and ANOTHER demo-charge. There was also a little platoon cmnd. squad and infantry.

We rolled out and set up Capture and Control w/ pitched battle

I went first and set up as close as possible to his line with my squads near each other-- I knew i had to get my Destroyer lord across the gulf and on top of his chimera. I couldn't let him move 12, rotate, deploy at 2", and nuke me at his leisure with the demo charge. Conversely, I really wasn't afraid at all of the platoon and I was at least marbo free for one turn.

I turbo'd across the gulf and had my troops move 6 and managed to run each 5. Therefore 13" out from contact.

He moves the chimera forward to shoot at my lord, but forgets to turn so his hatch has line to me (yay no plasma). His other troops don't move and shoot single load from range--he forgets to give any orders, but actually manage to kill 3 warriors with grenades, flashlights, etc. I just couldn't make those pesky WBB to save my life.

My turn, I have the lord pop the chimera and he deploys as far up the sides as he can with his demo-man to the front alongside the portion closest to one of my troop units.

I also have my troops move 6 towards enemy position and open fire. all but 1 are destroyed in one infantry squad and the little guy actually makes his Ld save.

His turn--- Marbo Emerges--- bad times commence.
Literally, he moves the veteran squad around my Lord and get to what (he thinks) is range for the d-charge. Nearby, his remaining strong infrantry unit moves 5-6" to side and within the vicinity of the enemy objective-making room for marbo's 'fun-time'. Marbo... appears flush 2" away from my somewhat spread-out squad. He pops the charge and 4 die--permanently. This leaves me with 3 warriros in one squad and 10 in the other. I also make the Ld test afterward.
As for the vet demo...we check range and its actually about 1/2" out. He fires plasma and has ridiculous bad luck: gets hot-dead, miss, miss, hit-roll 1.

My turn--- Lord skedaddles over to smack Marbo, troops move 6" over to completely ice the vet squad and succeeds save for one man (commissar included) who fails the Ld and spends the rest of the game running.

His turn--- Infantry desperately attempts to gun down the 3 man necron unit- epic fail.

My turn--- my 3 man team moves to target the single infantry model left and my 10 man targets the command squad. The necron lord jets over to the full strength infantry at the point farthest from the objective and engages melee--thus pulling them all away rather nicely.

The single man is dust in the wind and the command squad is like wise vaporized.

END: My friends calls game (T5) and gives it to me 1-0 objective.

Comments: Pretty much everyone watching me play thought I was insane charging the Imp guard line, but I figured given where his objective was and where he was going to deploy i could risk it. I was right. I also figured that if Marbo didn't do ....what he does on turn 2 I could get close enough to charge melee (the only time warriors will ever feel like melee kings). That never happened though, after the charges were dealt with I found gunning them down like fish in a barrel was a much more lucrative venture.

Neutralizing the chimera was pure luck though. on 4 attacks needing a 4+ to hit I got 3 and scored 2 pinning with at least a 5. It could have been a lot different--and then and there he would've moved 12" deployed and nuked me. I also got sort of lucky on marbo both with his charge and also his melee against my N-lord.

Dude I play necrons too. You are really, really lucky to have gotten away with a relativly large amount of CB with necrons. Very nice win. I always seem to have problems with the 500 pt games.

Yummy, nothing like souls to get you going in the morning

Yeah, don't I know it.
We've escalated to 1000pters and I've ended up using a combination of Destroyer Lords and Monoliths to put a hurt on a lot of people, but Demo-spam from IG, cheap Vindicators on SM/CSM and Demon Princes, etc. make life hell for Necrons that are exposed.

I also play necrons. have a tomb spyder or 2 and have LOTS of scarabs. They always help. dont get toooo many destroyers though. get heavy destroyers. get nightbringer as well. its worth it.

Yeah, very nice work with the 'crons showing they still kick those pesky IG butts.

Usually if I am against IG, I will always charge and try to get into CC no matter the point size of the game. Destroyer lord is devastatingly fast and combined with scarabs, their tanks can easily to disabled for most of the time.

Even flayed ones or wraiths sometimes feel right against IG. If you try to out-gun them then the pie plates of doom escort you to phase out.
