So I am trying to do some cool stuff with my guard instead of just build and paint a guard army. I want to give it some character. So I was thinking that I would make a guard atrmy and then follow that up with making a Alpha Legion army (have the two forces combine for apocalypse awesome)
Now what are peoples thoughts on this based on the novel should the Alphas be chaos and thusly as well the guard or should they all be loyalist built or use a mix of both (mostly the marines in this case similar to the red corsairs)
Does anyone like this idea at all - comments criticisms are all welcome

I'm going to go with Loyalist.
That way, you can mix them in with Imperial Guard forces using the Inquisition Codices.
The best of both worlds... And very true to the background too!

in Vraks 1 they link up with the renegade guard.
Also the Legion book leaves it open to whether they are loyal or not - so either way!

Other Chaos Legions really dislike the Alpha Legion. While they are big on cultists, they do not worship Chaos and do not summon daemons or use sorcery.
They do not have to be Loyalist, but incorporate only things that could also be considered renegade. So anything found in the loyalist codex as well, would be plausible to use in the Chaos Alpha Legion army.
I say go chaos. I'd rather see Alpha Legion who aren't afraid to touch the opponent than pansy Legion on a building firing bolters.

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. From those that would not heed we offer praise to those who do, that they might turn their gaze our way and gift us with the Boon of Pain, to turn the Galaxy red with the blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods."

Ok would you use vostroyan models for their guard contingent or cadians (im not much of a fan of the catachans except portions of the new command box)
so if I am to understand everyones advice in general is to use only units that both chaos and loyalist armies are able to use, possibly use parts from both the chaos and loyalist marine sprues.
I happen to have won a Vulkan model and was thinking of painting him and my pedro kantor models as alphas any thoughts there
Friend of mine thinks i should paintthem up pre heresy i do like the dark blue with bright green color scheme of the post heresy but i dont mind the purple either any comments criticisms on what to do there possibly even thoughts on how to do the color scheme?
