Old theory is old. Where have you been the past oh... ten years?
People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
Yeah, I learned about this in High School. Of course I went to High School in the US. I think back then it was just the YellowStone Caldera. They weren't actually calling it a Super Volcano yet (at least not that I remember). So damn big its got rivers in it!

Ha probably, Well if America goes I'll get my body board ready for the wave Thanks for the good surfing chaps lol.
To be quite frank, the world has been predicted to be blown up by anything and everything so many times that Even if I'm about to be squished by a giant flaming asteroid I'll still only say whatever, it's all bs anyway... bloody scientists and loonies then proceed to being burtn to a crisp and squished,
If I am not mistaken such a catastrophic event would take weeks to actually take place, at which point the entire park would be completely zoned, and thus you are a moron for being there... sucks to be an uniformed backpacker I guess .
The odds of this actually happening are quite insignificant, especially when you factor in the habits of volcanic activity (I am no geologist...) and gauge the predictability of it all.
Hawaii is more luka-lai-lei-mulaka-likely to have a disaster than yellowstone is, and I have taken that bike ride into the epic volcano on a bike. Epic volcano needs no name when it eats you .
Hmm... this is not so bad I guess.

Who has been to Yellowstone BTW? It is quite a peaceful place, and my two cents are on this Volcano taking a long nap for quite a long time. I dubby up a whole dollar actually, let's make this interesting .
LoL Meh They sya everyting isoverdue a couple of thousand years, were overdue an ice age were over due a meteor killing us all, were over due on a whale eating norway the list goes on !
Yeah, I think I became aware of this about a decade ago. Although if it does go off, I think everyone on the planet is pretty much screwed. The sheer amount of gas and dust thrown into the atmosphere would blot out the sun for years causing massive crop failure and interference with communications systems around the globe. I think evacuating the park isn't quite going to cut it. I do believe the last time a supervolcano went off it reduced the population of humans down to several 10's of thousands. I think that this thing is on such a scale we cannot really consider the consequences (they are just too bad).
Note: Read Bil Brysons science book...I don't recall the name. It has a lot of really interesting stuff in it and you don't have to be a physicist to understand it.
You know what I find really annoying? People get all panicky over end of the world predictions, but they don't bother thinking of ways to avoid it or disprove it.

Well I didn't say anything about believing in it. Its a fact that this volcano is gonna erupt sooner or later and when it happens the s*it is gonna hit the fan. But then there really is no need to worry...Absolutely nothing we can do about it, much less guess when it's gonna happen.
Well, plans for protecting population centres could be put in place. We can further develop methods of growing crops without sunlight. It might not go off for several hundred years, in which case we could very well survive it.

Ah, the old Yellowstone super-explosion. I read about this in at least 10 different science mags and all said
that based upon the latest discoveries they made the conclusion that Yellowstone wouldn't blow for another 1000000-1000000000
years. same for lake taupo, Hawaii and that thing which sunk Atlantis( ) so I say rest easy folks, its gonna be alright.

The History Channel? Bah, that's laughable. They're obsessed with their doomsday scenarios.
Honestly, would you trust professional geologists, or people who speculate on the internet and could be any average Joe?

If it was as dangerous as you say, there would be a lot more talk about it. I'm a regular viewer of the Discovery and National Geographic channels, and I have a family friend who's a geologist in America. I'm not saying it won't erupt, but like many things, it can be blown out of proportion.
