i was thinking of starting, but looking a the actual site I couldn't find any proposed Model sizes.

I'm aware that there isn't any in production by GW, and was thinking of using Peter Pig stuff but really didn't know if there is anything better.

Any help?

From what i've read, and from experience with Warhammer Historical, the rules were written with 28mm figs in mind (try Renegade miniatures or Gripping Beast) but you can usually use 20mm to 32mm with no changes to the rules.

I use 28mm for most games at this level.

Depends on the time of day really.

If you want to use 20MM you can go with Britannia and FAA who both have 20MM WW1 lines.

http://www.wargamesminis.com/

They are the home of FAA and carry the Britannia lines in the USA.

What WWI rulesets are out there other than WarHammer Historical?

i know of "contemptable little armies" and "to the last man" (i think), both by Chris Peers. The second one is more skirmish orientated, and give pretty quick and bloody results!!

The Great thing about Historicals is "paint once. play many different rules sets."

The Great thing about Historicals is "paint once. play many different rules sets."

But a rather important point to note is that some rule sets are better suited to a specific scale (6mm/10mm/15mm/20mm/28mm) than others.

Naturally, it won't be logical to play a rule set that's heavy on "massed battles" in 28mm.
The opposite will be true for playing skirmish-based rule sets with 6mm miniatures

(Not that they can't be done... they'll just prove to be infeasible)

i do great war americans , i just tweaked the brit list in the book until the over the top book comes out! . my friend and i used foundry figs because there cheap! 15$ gets you ten soldiers . could the be better? yes but there more cost effective. the renegades are awesome but are a lot more money . i built a 4x4 trench table you can veiw in my dakka gallery . im thinking now of useing the new airfix plastic 1/72 scale plastic figs mounted on pennies . ive done the 1/72 , 20mm plastics for modern before and they work great. there really cheap . easy to paint and its15$ for 42 guys they sell brits , germans , french , and americans . only problem i have to make new scaled down trenchs. but by doing cheap small scale you can now do hundreds of men in an assault cost effectively! im soon going to try out iron ivan productions price of glory ww1 rules . i love there disposible hero ww2 rule set , and there modern black hawk down set too. the great war books has a lot of great inspiring pics , but the rules are pretty much 40k. ww1 is a lot of fun . hope this inspires you . also check out my pics of my trenchs!

Your gallery is awesome! Are the tables and figures all your own work? I mean, there's everything, from Catachan jungle operations to the war between the USA and Mexico in the 19th century!

I'm planning on building myself a WW1 army with the use of the (early) war Renegade models.
Me (and my friend) will be using 'THE GREAT WAR' sourcebook.
Do you guys have any hints on what army (except Germany, Austria etc.) would be best.
I really like the french but i haven't seen the army list of them.

The British were good at the beginning but very small. They then went into a huge expansion phase which made them inexperienced and tactically weak. By 1917 they had improved a lot and had great artillery, plus tanks.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
