?? I think he means that, unless you travel flat out, skimmers aren't destroyed when immobilised - if memory serves. So you only need them if moving flatout seems like a good idea!

You do if you want to avoid crashing when immobilised whilst moving flat out.

Vectored engines will mean your immobilized vehicled doesn't become a wreck, and therefore also saves your squad from disembarking and doing a pinning test. This would only come up if you moved flat out, in which case your vehicle would also have recieved a 4+ cover save. They're not useless.

What do you mean when you all say "Moving Flat Out?"

Skimmers can move up to 24"... This is called flat out... When moving flat out, if a skimmer is hit, it is automatically wrecked... This is what they mean by flat out....

The types of movement is (Please correct me if I am wrong)

6" Combat Speed (Pg 57 BRB)
more than 6" - 12" Cruising Speed (Pg 57 BRB)
more than 12" - 18" Flat out for fast vehicles (Pg 70 BRB)
more than 12" - 24" Flat out for skimmers (Pg 71 BRB)

Weapons that can fire (Pg 73 BRB unless specific codex/BRB rules state otherwise):

Stationary: All Weapons
Combat Speed: 1 Weapon plus defensive weapons. Fast Vehicles may fire all weapons.
Cruising Speed: No Weapons. Fast vehicles may fire one weapon plus defensive weapons.
Flat Out: Nothing may fire.

Keep in mind the rules are a little different for walkers, but this is how it would be dealt with for non-walker vehicles.

Edit: Multiple edits to add information, correct punctuation, and to correct abreviations. Also added that it has to be "more than" certain measurements to move movement into the next category of speed.

Anything over 12" in normal movement is flat out. If you're immobilised while going flat out (moving between 12"-24") then your skimmer slams into the ground and crashes, becoming wrecked.

Well your question has been answered; I suggest you acquire a Rulebook, as Flatout is a pretty significant rule to know nothing about. This leads me to believe there are other rules you're ignorant of, and we really shouldn't be responsible for edifying you of the actual rules. Read the RB, then come to us if you're confused about what you've read.

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

I'd suggest getting a copy of a 5th edition rulebook, reading the relevant parts, and then judging for yourself. They are still handy, and an upgrade, but possibly not as huge a one as they used to be.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

addition: note that it's not Skimmers that can move flat out but FAST Skimmers

Curse you GW! GO Learn ENGLISH. Calling it "permissive" is no excuse for Poorly written Logic.
