What percent of a model must be official GW to be used at GT's etc? I'm looking at a lot of different models as for my Daemons army and I want to know if I'm painting (sic, ha) myself into a corner by using non-GW models for the Princes. Thanks in advance!

If that upsets your fluff stomach, buy a case of "it's just a game"-bizmo and get over it.

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

It's subjective: As long as it's clearly mostly GW parts, and the extra pieces you use are not recognisable as the IP of another company (especially another game company) you should be fine. Because it's mostly up to the TO, if you follow these guidelines you should be alright.

EDIT: also, NO LoTR parts at all.

Where does The Vrock fall into this?

Would I have to add a bunch of GW bits to make it allowable or not?

I first saw this model the other day, it's very pretty. In my experience, to play in most GW sanctioned locations and events. You're looking at 50%+ of GW in your models.

Look if you play 100% GW army and have an amazing model like that as you HQ ... well only TFG is going to have issues with you. In GT well you have to ask the GT organisers whether you can use it, I would hazard that it would still be OK to field it.

I love the model so I'd go for it!

If you have one, the best solution would be to have a cheap back-up model (maybe get a badly painted GW one on ebay and strip it down to repaint it) that you can use if anyone has an issue, and use this awesome model for the 99% of the rest of the time

You could only use it in a GW tournament with the TO's permission, since no amount of gluing stuff to it will make it pass as "mostly" GW - and it would be a shame to do that to such a lovely model anyway.

That's kind of the point of the rule in fact, so people don't start showing up with prettier models

Most of the time, the TOs will even allow players to field entire stand in or fabricated armies. My friend was able to field a stand in cron army 3 years ago with no problem, and we saw some tau, halo based army there too. It shouldnt be a problem as long as you contact them in advance and models arent confusing for what they stand for...

I can't stand someone telling me what I can and can't do with my models. Modeling for advantage is one thing, but stopping someone from using a different model because it's not GW (and probably better looking) is really annoying.

This being said, you gots to play by da rules, especially in GT. I vote for the 'table-top quality standby' suggested earlier to use in case someone calls you out. That's a good way to cover all your bases. The guy who points out your 'illegal' model may be TFG, but they are technically within their rights to ask you to not field it.

Sorry, this is totally unrelated, but I think it's the first time I've seen someone use 'sic' on Dakka. It's a useful word, but I'm not sure you used it quite correctly.

[sic] is used when quoting a source that has made a spelling or grammatical mistake and you want to keep the quote exact, but also make it clear that the original author made the error. While your usage was definitely punny (and believe me, I love a good pun!) it's not the best place for a sic.

Please forgive my pedantry! Just a bit of trivia, is all.

At an official GW tournament, its going to be disallowed because its not at least 50% GW (or based off of GW). However, as other posters have pointed out, for less official tournaments its undoubtedly fine.

Either way, its a freaking sweet miniature. Heck, all the miniatures off that link are awesome! If you do get it, make sure to post some WIP shots.
