Hi all,
Have a game coming up in a a couple of weeks against some close friends of mine. its a 10,000 point battle split into 4 teams.

2500 points of Tau + 2500 points of Gret knights

vs

2500 points of Imperial guard + 2500 points of chaos

the game isn't apoc, its standard force organisation with high points. Iv currently played 11 games so far in my "warhammer" life and not lost yet (although i know its inevitable) i'd like to keep the 100% record as long as possible.

Anyone have any tactical suggestions or army list ideas?? iLOVE my pirahnas, i usually take 3 broadsides with shield drones as heavy support but take at least 3 pirahnas due to there versitility. i was thinking 15 suits (elites and hq) 3 12 man squads of fire warriors all in devilfish, 4 pirhanas, and 3 broadsides??

my ally (grey knights) are taking 3 land raiders with grand master and terminators. basically filling our transports and going heavy on one flank while a couple of my suit teams annoy the hell out of them with the pirhanas.

Any ideas please let me know.

kenny

i was thinking about dropping a railhead and taking ion cannon for the chaos marines, then spending the extra points pluss the 50 iv got left on a 10 man kroot squad with 5 hounds, only 100 points. and 15 attacks at initiative 5 makes a lovely speed bump.

what you all reckon? is there anything different you would take? i know iv spent a lot on each devilfish, but with BS4 and 7 st 5 ap 5 shots from each one i feel its worth the points sink.

be nice............

I like the list! Here are my thoughts:

-I might be stealing your HQ
-Why the marker light drones with the suits? Am I mistaken that they won't be able to jump around, since marker lights need to remain still to be fired?
-I like your troops . On the devilfish, they're expensive but if you're taking SMS I feel like you want to be able to move 12" and still fire the SMS (or 6" and fire everything), and you've done what you need to do to make that effective!

Suggestions
-I'd definitely add in the kroot!
-You make a good point about the ionhead- I'd also like to see you add in some lower AP weaponry. I don't think you need quite that many twin-linked missile pods, ive you've got something else (you've splurged on your devilfish, maybe you should splurge on a squad of suits and give them some plasma rifles with missile pods)
-Even better than the ionhead, if you've got the models/points I'd make a squad of three broadsides with a few shield drones. I think you'll need the heavy tank-popping ability for imperial guard! You could shave the points by dropping bonding from each FW squad, maybe dropping their numbers to six, or dropping some of the goodies on the fish/hammerheads.
-Flechettes would be nice for the pirahnas

Do you run the suits (and pirahnas) up behind the wall of devilfish? Or do you split them off? I just played 3 games with this strategy for the first time yesterday, and they did awesome. I could see splitting off the pirahnas, but I don't see how the suits will survive on their own (unless they're out at maximum range).

Thanks for the reply

Firstly...HQ.. he does rock, its cheap and effective and i usually add him to my other 3 man twin liked plasma team and send them hunting. The networked markerlights are expensive i know, but so so effective. usually, a markerlight can only be fired if the said unit has not moved, but due to the "networked markerlight" being a drone, it can JSJ, and any units that can JSJ are jetpack, which means they have the relentless special rule, resulting in them being able to move and still fire a heavy weapon. priceless... so what you get is a highly annoying markerlight that can jump out, light you up, and go hide again perfectly legal too.

i was only going to use them to light up units for my f/w in the devilfish. all my suits have BS4, as do hammerhead, pirhanas and devilfish....the only thing that doesnt are my f/w. i dont know how you usually use them but i love to use fish of fury. there something special about running the fish into your opponants face then unloading a squad of firewarriors and rapid firing them to death. the markerlights usually bring them to BS5.

i know the age old saying with tau is that you never split your force but it works so so well if you get it right. i usually send out 2 teams of twin linked missile suits to hit the enemy at range, while my other twin linked suit team with HQ attached goes down one flank, along with pirhana and 2 devilfish full of men. there sole purpose is to get in the enemies face and cause as much damage before they die. the other 3 fish, suits and railheads all stay in support role..... taking cover and using those beautiful st10 railguns to pepper the enemy at range along with the SMS for the fish hiding behind buildings and not even needing line of sight.

i do agree, i need more low ap weapons... but ud be suprised how well twin linked missile pods do. Assault 2...so thats 12 shots from the two teams... all hitting on 3's and re-rolling all misses, so thats allmost 95% hits...then st7, so they would almost everything on a 2+...again meaning around 90% wound ratio.... then theres AP4...guard, eldar, orks, nids all die.... necrons sisters and marines are rolling that many saves they always take casualties. to be honest they do more damage on average than the plasma rifle when you throw in there 36" range. i decimated an eldar army recently with this set up, even his skimmers couldnt handle the sheer amount of shots they put out. i ALWAYS go twin linked.... its all good having a missile pod and a plasma rifle, but your down to BS3 and no re-rolls.... you end up missing more and i really dont see the effectivness of it.

i think i might knock the f/w down to 6 or 7 like you say.... POSSIBLY scrap the markerlight drones (90) points and add some kroot and a broadside or 2. i'v bought 9 broadsides from forgeworld (£25 a piece) becasue i really do love them. but no matter how much i play them they always take heavy casualties... there as much as a bullet magnet as termies. there slow and i have a canny nack of rolling 1-3 on the dice TWICE!! i dont know about you but i love mobility. i just wish our fish could move 18inch.

i killed Abby recently and a full retunite of termies with the fish of fury.... popped the land raider with 3 hammerhead shots.... ran 3 fish upto him and unloaded the 3 SMS...piled 27 firewarriors (guided by 2 markerlight hits) and rapid fired the living poo out of them...abby stood with 2 wounds left which a twin linked missile team finished off......the look on my mates face was priceless.

how do you fair with tau? do you go mech or foot slog? this is the 4th time iv played chaos and although they can be nasty, to be effect they have to sink a lot of points into there guys.

which units we're you splitting off the other day and who we're you playing?

its nice to finally meet a tau player with a brain...theres so many out there who make the greater good look so..so bad.

A drone takes the type of its controller. Since that is a Jump Infantry (Jet Pack), the drone gets Relentless and can move and still shoot a heavy weapon.

Same result but different explanation
