Hey, i'm having a bit of trouble, im not sure wether to take two preds in my army (1 dakka pred(AC and HBs) and 1 all lascannon) or a Land raider.
With the land raider i can get my cc termy squad with Kantor (who cant deepstrike with the squad otherwise) into combat quick. but with the preds i get that extra firepower. And they cost relatively the same points.
So what do you guys think i should do?

With the amount of anti tank popping up now in 5th ed. Along with all the new ways to blow up tanks, i'd personally take 2 Preds.
Thats also because i generally love preds. And if need be you can deep strike the CC termies in, toss Kantor in a rhino with some marines and be happy.

I guess it really comes down to what you want your army to do.

I would not use assault terminators without a land raider to transport them in. They will be a big target while moving into position to assault. Even if you deep strike them they will have to endure a round of enemy fire.

If you are willing to replace the assault terminators with something else then go for the 2 preds.

What sort of preds are you considering? From the points I'd guess dakka preds with heavy bolter sponsons?

A crusader on the move is killing just as many marines (3.9) as the predators stationary (3.2) with only 6" less range (6" move + 24" range). At close range it's doing a lot better (4.8)

Against guardsmen, the preds are better at long range (10.2) compared to the crusader (7.1) but at short range it's the same (10.6)

The crusader kills just as much, can do it while moving, has better armour and can transport. The downside is that it's a single a vehicle and so more vulnerable but this is offset somewhat by the improved armour.

ETA The big advantage to the preds is popping light transports at range. Against AV11 the AC is as good as a lascannon and it can target two different transports. The crusader can do the same with the assault cannon and the multi-melta but at a shorter range.

Do you have any other heavy support in your army?

a single landraider usually ends up as a single waste of 250 points. all of your opponents anti tank will end up on one target.

If you take multiple land raiders then your opponent will have a much harder time.

I have terrible luck with preds, and 90% of the time they do nothing in my games, Land raiders always do something, even if they dont kill anything, they are still transporting a unit and get them farther up the field protected from fire.

I've struggled with this question too. It seems to me that two tanks is better than one, however, usually that one tank isn't a land raider.

My vote is for the land raider crusader for the all the reasons listed by everybody else - transport capacity, high armor and a fire sponge that has the potential to survive a round or two of focused shooting.

Yes they can survive shooting, but not against my mate who plays tau's 5 railguns which he will innevitably shoot at a land raider

keeping a pred still to fire all weapons means the targets you want to fire at better be in LOS AND you will be hit automatically if a fast attack reaches them...

Preds are better on paper then in practice

take with a grain of salt b/c I openly hate preds

If your using them to transport your termies you should really go for a crusader, as its good at close range, seeing that Its just gonna be getting close anyway

If you get a lascannon 'raider you can order the redeemer/crusader weapon sprue and you can swap between all three variants.

Yeah but dont you have to glue the weapons on? then you would have to glue them each time

You'll have two complete sponsons.

You build one with the lascannons and one with the middle of the redeemer/crusader sponsons. These attach to the tank with magnets. You also put magnets in the crusader/redeemer sponsons and weapons so that you can swap them.

There's loads of guides available (although it's pretty easy).
