On grey ash/sand with snow for flocking option, or brown eath with green grass flocking option.... My color scheme for storm troopers is pretty much standard inquisitors red/black etc. And the grey knights are silver/gold with some blue wash on the force weapons etc.

Im a fan of:
whiteglue, Sand, Chaos Black, then a drybrush of Codex Grey.

whiteglue, sand, fortress grey, then green flock looks nice too.

Anyway, i would go with the grey ash/sand + snow. (of those 2 choices). The snow can get white powder over stuff though. Generally the grey sand fits in with most boards (unless the board is completley grass).
