So, I wanna make a deathstrike missile launcher. I was going to use a basilisk as my base model, or just a chimera with plasticard to make the floor part for where the earthshaker cannon sits. Anyway, I'm looking for some other missile model kits and did some googling. I found this site that sells a few of them

First is a Hercules missile kit thats 31cm long (around 12"?)
http://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/revell-nike-hercules-missile-00011-p-17264.html

Then there's this guideline missile launcher that's 376mm long (14")
http://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/trumpeter-guideline-missile-launcher-00206-p-3315.html

I would just build the launcher kit and stick it on the back of a chimera with other bitz to blend it in right. However... a 12 or 14" rocket will be way bigger than the chimera. I want it to look like it can at least semi-realistically carry it. Would they be too big and look stupid? or should I just go for it? I think I like the look of the guideline one better. Anyone know of any other missile launcher kits out there?

Get the Guideline, looks cooler. And if you check you´ll realize that quite a few ballistic missiles are bigger that the carrier.

modelhobbies is the bomb! I bought stuff from there for my Hydras and my Manticore!

Wierdly, I was looking into a deathstrike last night, and whilst agreeing about the Basilisk base, I was thinking ov going for something that looks like a SCUD mounted on a tracked TEL, like the Pluton.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pluton_(missile)

However, seeing your SA-2 idea, I love it! I used the SA-6 as a base for my Manticore, but I found the missiles to be far too long, so they needed trimming down.
You may find that at a foot long, the SA-2 may also need a bit of management.

you could always try the Bloodhound

Or the old classic, the V2;

Good luck and keep posting!

Not thrilled with the SA-2... I like the Hercules better.

How about a Scud? Or a V2?

I like the look of the SA2 itself, but I fear 14" will be too long and just look dumb on a chimera. 12" would be pushing it but the Hercules could work, I'm just not a fan of the "1970s" looking wings on the nose part. I guess I could try to extend the front of the chimera and go for that half track look like someone else was posting about... but then I gotta order wheel bitz and all...

I did a search for a scud kit and found this one
https://www.missionmodels.com/product.php?productid=98699&cat=0&page=1

I guess that could work, and it has wheels that I could use for the half track idea. Doesn't say how big the model will be but I'm sure the missile will be as big as those other 2...

Seeing as you have a picture of an Ork for an avatar you might be interested in this missile.

The Zaku II holding it is the same one in my avatar. Its from that exact same scud kit mentioned in the above post.

I'm building one out of an plastic tube from inside a paper towel dispenser, plasticard, and miliput. Sure, it's a lot harder than finding one, but I know I'm getting exactly the right size (about 8"long, 1.5" diameter).

No one kills more threads than me. Maybe I leave nothing else to say. Maybe my comments suck so hard people are left stunned. Who can say.

Mockier over at Warseer has a great thread on building a Deathstrike. He uses a 1:144 Space Shuttle kit (you can find them on ebay for around 10.00 + shipping) that you can get up to 3 rockets out of the kit. His thread is great!

Also, here is a link to my thread on Warseer where I used Mockier's tips to make my own DS. Pic at the top of page 1 and WIP pics on page 2.

GL on the build. I'll be watching here for updates!

Thanks for the links I did see the space shuttle one on war seer yesterday. that's a good idea. I might see if I can just find a cheapy space shuttle or rocket toy at toys are us. I saw over on WIP someone made one out of the Nike Hercules rocket and it's almost silly-big, but would look great on a baneblade chassis.

I like the Shuttle booster base but think it needs fins and a different nose cone. I like the distinctive shape the stepped down nose on the illustration of the Death Strike looks... would be easily doable with some putty and sheet plastic.

Might have to do one of these now for my Traitor Guard.

you could also try a Missile from the old GI-Joe toy, Rolling Thunder

See the missile here

and a pic of it with a Chimera here..

note that the back (green) portion pops off.... you could easily shorten the rocket if you wanted plus you can get them cheap as seen above on Ebay.
