I'd posed this question before, but it got overshadowed by some other questions I had so I figured I'd readdress it. I was playing w/ army builder and noticed it allowed for an ethereal to take EMP grenades part of his wargear access. I can see how this would be fair game as an independant character, however, ethereal can have a full FW unit as a retinue and/or join as an independant character. Being that the ethereal has his EMP grenade, would that not confer it on to the unit he joins or his retinue in the event they might, for whatever reason, be in a position to use the EMP grenades? In other words, does have an ethereal essentially give whatever unit he joins EMP grenades at a heavily reduced cost? They dont have much else going for them. If someone posed the question to me I do beleive I'd say it's fair game. Please keep tactics aside, remember the question here is "can it be done?", rather than "is it a good idea?".

I'd say why bother because an EMP doesn't do anything in fantasy

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Just the etherial has it.

You get one roll with the EMP, and the rest of the squad would fight as normal.

Much like frag grenades only effect the initiative of models equiped with them, and melta bombs give 8+2d6 vs armor only for models with them.

I'd be surprised if EMP grenades on an Independent Character could be used by his squad as well.

It doesn't work that way for meltabombs or anything else like that.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Sorry, should have clarified. With the FW's by themselves the entire unit would have to take EMPs(18-36points). With the ethereal you'd have an EMP(only one roll) but it would still grant that FW unit a grenade boost they normally wouldnt have when assaulting a vehicle at only 3 points. Is this accurate?

If the firewarrior squad with an ethereal assaulted a vehicle, and the ethereal (but not the firewarriors) had an EMP grenade, the ethereal would get an attack against the vehicle with his grenade.

So in that sense, yeah, it add anti-vehicle assault ability to the squad. Although I don't know if a single EMP grenade is going to make that much of a difference.

Even your Shas'ui in a regular firewarrior squad can be the only one equipped with EMP grenades. Doesn't mean it's worth taking them.

QFT.

But yeah, unless the Fire Warriors have the Grenades, they cannot use them. In this case only the Ethereal gets to use them.
