Checking in to say hello from the tropical jungles of NY as requested.
I came to 40k through MMOs about a year ago and have been steadilly working on one army or another since then but havn't played a single game yet. I keep trying to finish painting and assembling a 1000pt army first. Silly? Yes but I think that's the part I'm really going to enjoy about the hobby.
I ran into Dakkadakka through the D6G show and after lurking figured it's time I got in here and started reading and hopefully getting advice especially in the modeling area. Just like my favorite podcast I'll "try not to suck" when I post.

Thanks for the Warm Welcome.
I haven't actually played an army yet. It goes something like this.
I bought a bunch of space marines a while back and started putting them together but got pulled away by other things.
Came back to it later and decided to get some Tau. Built a bunch of fire warriors and battle suits and kept hearing "don't play Tau for your first army"
Finally figuring that that many people can't be wrong I've swapped and I'm working on putting together a 1000 pt nid list to finally start playing this game.
In the mean time I've discovered that I'm LOVING customizing and painting the models so I've just started building an ork army at the same time where the end goal will be to have every model customized. A very very long term project. I just can't do much in the way of conversion on the nids. I have no greenstuff skills as of yet.
So I guess the short answer is I'm going to be playing nids as soon as their done but at the moment I'm excited about the orks.
