Alrighty.

I recently posted a "want ad" for a Daemon Huntress (54mm, Inq.) but have now realized this is probably doomed to failure. So, I spent the princely sum of $23.90 on this following fine model, which is pretty cool.

http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/masterseriesminiatures/latest/30011

Why am I buying this model? Why did I want the Daemon Huntress? Could I use more rhetorical questions? Who are the overlords of the UFO?

I have an Empire Knight army (link in my profile for a PM blog - not much done yet) who is devoted to Myrmidia, and I wanted to have an "Avatar" type figure to lead it. The image of Myrmidia is a strong young woman in "Tilean" armor (so, basically, Athena / Minerva or Artemis / Diana, really!) I was going to use the Daemon Huntress as a base, but i) I don't think I'll be able to get the model ii) it is a bit static iii) this figure was only $23.90, and is really nice.

Yeah, so I won't be able to play in GW tournaments. Meh. Never been to one, probably never going to go. Heck I don't even play anymore!

So - I have my model on order. She is 54mm scale.

I wanna give her WINGS! So she looks like Nike or an angel or something similar. I feel that would be cool. And possibily badass. (Note; actual amount of badass may vary by state. Offer for badass not valid in Delaware.)

So, here is my question - what wings should I use? What will look good on a 54mm model, and esp. one in that pose? I have a few options from GW herself;

Bret. Pegasus wings - advantage in that they are plastic!
Big ol' eagle wings - are these things too big?
Pegasus wings - very cool shape!
Gryphon wings - I think these are FAR too big!
Tzeentch wings - ditto!

So, any thoughts about this? I seem to remember the two sets of pegsaus ones are between two and three inches long - which would fit well on the figure. Does anyone have any comment concering scale of these things? Would they work well on the model in question?

Thanks in advance!

Those are very lovely wings! And very cheap too! I do like them. I am, however, concerned by a few factors;

i) I am in the USA, which means the shipping suddenly racks up, what with the current parlous state of the dollar at the moment. Were I still in the UK, things would be better.

ii) I am not sure if they are the wrong shape ... part of me thinks they would be great for sweeping up or sweeping down, but the model is flat-footed on the ground. I am not sure if I need something a little more . . . static? Furled?

Thanks very much, though! I shall bear this in mind. I am currently making some pictures so I can see what various wings might look like.

I once had a crack at something similar using Ariel and the Lord of change wings. I rate the Lord of change wings for this kind of thing. What about the LotR eagle wings, are they suitable?

I wanted feathered wings, and Balrog wings are massive huge. She is only 54mm scale! Although a human flying would require HEOWGE wings, I think we need to go with magic here

EDIT : Are not the Tzeentch wings massive huge too? Do they not utterly dominate the figure? As for the LotR eagles wings; I just sold a LotR eagle on the electronic Bay, and part of me is loath to buy another one! In any case, they are very "straight out" wings, and I fancy something a bit furled, maybe? The Tzeentch wings are a good shape; I merely worry about the HEOWGEness of them.

I wanted feathery wings, for that typical "angellic" look.

Although that is a lovely miniature - I wonder about the logic of a site which is selling models (which are bought on the basis of what they LOOK like) censoring "t3h nippl3z of EEEVIL!"

Sheesh people - women have nipples! If you are going to sculpt wet-dream figures and then have the gall to sell them, show the nipples!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I have done a bit of photomanipulation, using three of the GW sets I considered. These photomanips are based on my (dim) recollections of the scale of the wing components (which I remember from my days as a GW staffer) and an assumption that a 54mm figure is, actually, about 54mm tall . . . yeah, I know.

So, here are the pictures - comments on which looks best?

Definitely the Pegasus wings or the eagle wings. I think they both look quite extraordinary and your choice will be a tough one.

Thanks, MrWittwer. I thought that was Hiliary Clinton in your avatar for a second there - must get my eyes tested.

I have looked online for some images of models which use the various wings in them, and tried to get a scale for each set. It is not easy - but I think the Bretonnian pegasus and eagle ones are to scale. I am a little small with the pegasus ones (assuming, as I said before, she is genuinely 54mm tall).

I think, looking at the three options, the eagle wings will be knocked out of the running - they are basically just a "rougher" model of the pegasus ones. I do agree - it is an extraordinary look.

I dunno - the pegasus ones look really sweet kinda "haloing" her, while there is more movement in the upswept wings.

I think I have some of the metal pegasus wings (if not, I certainly have some already built into a model) and so when the miniature arrives I will hold her up against them and see what we get.

Thanks - I really don't know what you guys see in the eagle wings, nor why they are so much better than the Bretonnian Pegasus wings which you don't like (they are, to my mind, just a "rougher" version!)

Still, I appreciate the input. I am leaning more and more to the Pegasus ones, because of the static nature of the model. I found a good picture of Balthasar Gelt which allowed me to precisely scale the Pegasus wings - they are 59mm from top to tip, and I have adjusted my photomanip accordingly (new picture is above - I uploaded it over the top of the old one).

I like these wings because they are relatively static, and so is the model. She looks like she has been standing there for some time, and is looking down at something .... Her wings would be at rest, I think.

So, I a plan forms in the dark recesses of what I (in my more self-delusional moments) call my mind! I shall order the plastic Bretonnian pegasus wings from GW. I already have metal pegasus wings (on another figure, uncomplete) and I shall then have two pairs of wings. I think the swept-up plastic wings will look superior on this model, and the "at rest" wings better for Myrmidia.

She will be stood on a rock of some kind, looking down .... at a kneeling, suplicant knight figure, presenting his sword to her. She will also have (either on the base or separately, as part of a unit) attendant knight figures carrying her arms and armor, and perhaps books and tomes etc. etc.

Which brings me to another question - do you think I should mount her on a 40mm or a 50mm base? 40 would allow her to go in a unit of infantry, 40 would allow her in a unit of cavalry (counting as TWO horses) - OR be counted as someone on a monster.

Or should I just say "meh" to it and mount her on a 50mm base and use the extra space for awesomeness?

Yeah, looking at it again, the normal pegasus wings kinda match the way she is looking down... I like. As for bases... im not quite sure D:
