I have the strangest feeling that this has been discussed before...
But yeah if it was destroyed that sucks, I was looking forward to picking one up for my WoC.

The original mold being destroyed doesn't mean the original model is fubared, though, does it? They will just make another mold - which will put the release schedule back a bit.
However, no-one knows when! Alas! Alackaday!

I am hoping that the release date is moved back to after they actually make a couple of good head/faces for the thing.
As it is now, they are really the worst part of the model...

It might mean GW will cut their losses and axe the entire release, though, as completely remaking the steel mold is expensive. That's what happened to the dwarf lord and standard bearer sprue.

If the molds are made of steel, how could it be accidentally destroyed? Did they bring it back to the steel mill and accidentally drop it in the tub of molten metal like the terminator? Or did the chinese mold makers actually make it out of lead like they make everything out of?
I think some shinnanigans are afoot...

It would be quite difficult to completely anihilate the mold without trying (unless there was something wrong with the steel casting) but if it were damaged in such a way you couldn't get the proper detail (say the mold was bent, for example) i doubt they'd continue to make faulty spues

"mould destroyed" = "We don't feel like releasing it atm, go buy some loyal SM. You forces of chaos have to wait for a new codex so we can maximise sales of it by making it seem awesome through story and that month's WD, assuming Jervis doesn't use them in the battle report"
warpcrafter, that seemed to have worked quite well though. But, GW would do that as it would cost them money to build the mould in the first place. They would sell a few then 'accidentally' drop it forcing it to see sales as an oop model, direct only.

You asked a question and got an honest answer, no one knows when the daemon prince kit will be coming out. Sorry if that's not very "helpful".
If all you wanted to do was guess/speculate, then the thread title and OP were not descriptive enough.

This is what happened.
The mold is fine. They have plenty. It's not expensive to a company like GW to have multiples (because they do).
They just aren't releasing it yet. I've heard the second wave of demon model releases. And probably after another 10% price hike.

It seemed as if you were responding that, no, you personally did not know when it was due to be released. If you knew that no-one knew when it would be released due to, apparently, the mould being mistakenly destroyed, it would have been more helpful for you to indicate that.

The same thing has happened before. The plastic dwarf lord/standard bearer comes to mind. Some yahoo let it fall off the cart he was pushing, hence we have metal dwarf lord box. The plastic molds cost over 100k, metal ones are much cheaper but you cant get the multi pose you can with plastic, and on higher output models plastic is cheaper in the long run.

If they use typical plastic injection molding (and I assume they do) the molds are made of aluminum, expensive as hell and are very easily damaged.
I worked in manufacturing for a while doing injection molding and aluminum molds can be ruined EASILY. One of the things we had to watch for was to make sure that the plastics did not get stuck part way in the mold (the press was a horizontal press so gravity was SUPPOSED to make the parts fall, and being about 15ft long I imagine it was designed that way to fit in most normal buildings). The ones we had operated on 100 tons of pressure and if the plastic pieces got part way down and the pressed closed it was a $5k mold that became a $5k paper weight. The plastic was hard enough that the plastic could ACTUALLY chip the edges of the mold so when the next part was built it would be deformed.
Not saying GW isn't pulling legs but destroying molds accidentally with how fragile aluminum is is not that difficult to do. Anyone wondering why aluminum is used instead of steel is mainly cost. A steel mold would be more expensive (right now steel is alot more expensive per ton than aluminum) and I am sure the C&C machines use steel bits which will carve aluminum alot faster than carving steel, resulting in less labor time to create meaning GW pays less for the outsourced mold (as I'm sure but not 100% positive some other company creates the actual molds; where I worked we outsourced the mold designs to another company so I'm going off what I know from work experience).

100k For a plastic mould, that is laughable, maybe for a whole series of moulds and even then you'd be looking at maybe a couple of hundred moulds, unless they are making them out of gold they are not paying 100k for a set of moulds. Even laser cut steel moulds cost no where near that, more then likely they didn't like the cast or are possibly recasting it, or are just waiting for the other daemons to pick up to release them in the 2nd wave.
Also i agree with fate, not necessarily on the expense of them, but all moulds can be damaged easily and require lots of care, unless they are silicon/rubber moulds they are pretty durable. But it is cheaper for them to most likely outsource the mould then produce them themselves, most likey just to get the equipment and materials as well as time and labour. So there could be a break down there too.
Also lastly from the pics in the planet strikle book it seems the kit is some preexisting pieces that have been cast in plastic with some new pieces so there might be issues there too.

I had never heard of the DP mold being wrecked ... I assumed we'd see that kit along with the other Wave 2 WoC stuff in a year or so - in which I really really hope to see a plastic chariot / warshrine kit at long last, there's really no plastic heavy chariot option out there. Considering the Wave 2 DoC stuff is finally hitting Early '10 - plastic plaguebearers, horrors - I guess we have some wait ahead of us. But I am with jamessearle0 and others, those two DP we've seen were pretty poor, especially in the facial region - Salvage

It really would be a shame if we never saw this kit. Even if you don't like the heads, there are plenty of other heads that could easily be swapped out. I hope BrookM is right and we get it before the year is out.
