If anyone wants to post there own GK's that would help also

Hi

I don't think there are any effective easy ways to paint NMM - it requires blending over the entire model.

Things like flow aid and wet blending could certainly speed it up, but you are still blending on every panel independantly.

As far as metalics go - you can get some lovely metal effects with metalic paints - combining some of the NMM techniques with metalic paints.

Check out this one for the extreme of using metalics to good effect (Gold award at France's GD):

you shoudl also look into using the GW washes. Boltgun Metal looks awesome with a wash of badab black over it. Still a metallic paint, but the wash really dulls the shine down, and makes it look like it is in the grim dark future, where all metal is greasy

Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.

Here is a article on painting vibrant metallics by automaton.
It describes the process of painting this mini
.

There is now short cut to making NMM easy or fast to paint, in my opinion the metallic paints offer more possibilities and give better finish in less time.

I agree with using a wash over the metallic paint. Without it the figure will look to clean and pristine. There should be darker spots in the recesses and brighter spots on the "high" areas or highlights.

When I did my GKs (which I don't have a pic of, sry) I based black and then built up from boltgun metal. Then used a dark blue wash. I liked the way they looked in the book. But if you wanted a darker look you could use a black or a brown wash.

Definitely need to make sure there is some contrast though.

Using that method got me "best painted character" for my brother captain at a FLGS tourny.
