My brother recently aquired a LARGE amount of unpainted warhammer and gave me a free whirlwind. Well i gladly accepted it, but me doing white scars doesnt seem to fit. BUT! I came up with a way to possibly incorperate it into my army. I though about having the whirlwind cover my bike squad with captain while they charge. So... what do you think?

Never use a large blast weapon when your close to a unit
use them to whittle down large units, but never use the close to your own, as theres allways a good chance you will kill your own men.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor. |

Well, you could exploit the pinning that barrage weapons get but that makes it even less accurate. I think you'll find one whirlwind very unreliable - even two can miss a lot of the time.
The best use for whirlwinds is taking the targets that your bikes can't assault - especially weak units in cover (guard, eldar, etc)

Whirlwinds are cheap points wise. In smaller games your bikers will probly always be close to the few units your opponent has. In bigger games though, more enemy units means you can shoot at stuff away from your bikers.
Castellan missles are really useful against guard and other light infantry the hides in cover- especially any units with stealth/camo cloaks that have 2 or 3+ cover saves.
And while not ideal, the S5 missles, getting the highest of 2 dice for armor pen, can be useful vs light vehicles in squadrons- speeders, buggies, vypers, sentinels. Squadrons are big targets

You can also just take the WW launcher off and field it as a rhino if it's not glued into place.

I second the above suggestion. Rhinos are always useful.

Firing as a barrage does not reduce accuracy. That only happens when you shoot at a target that you can't see.
