Disclaimer: I have zero to do with this, but I came across a flyer at my FLGS, and was intrigued by the location.
Da Grand Waaagh GT is running Oct. 2-4, on the U.S.S. Hornet, a WW2 aircraft carrier converted to a museum, in Alameda, CA (where they used to keep the nuclear wessels). Both 40k and WHFB events.

I noticed this:
Composition
For each round, you will be judged on your Composition– the understanding of balance, a measure of fairness, and the spirit of composition. Remember, no one wants to come to a tournament only to get mauled by unrealistic army lists and ultra-nasty combinations. . Also, be aware that if we suspect someone is marking opponents low (or high) on purpose rather than in the spirit of the Sportsmanship rules, the Tournament judges have the right to review and adjust the scores as they deem fit.
But I couldn't find what the actual comp Guidelines were....

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

In theory this is a great venue.
Now imagine fat sweaty gamers crammed into the galley, with very narrow corridors for you to mauneuver with your giant Sabol cases and ultra-wide GeeDub cases. At least the Battlefoam case is hard sided too...
(can I get paid for that?)
Still - I'd go. Such is Commitment.

It should still be Air Conditioned, so I don't think it'll be that bad for the sweaty gamers than any other venue. As far as the corridors, it's still a Carrier, so it should be relatively wider than a normal Frigate/Destroyer/Cruiser; even still the corridors on a Destroyer are plenty wide enough to accommodate the army cases. The hardest thing would be going up/down a deck. Totally badass idea, wish they had something like it on the east coast.

I used to know a guy who painted Warhammer 40k stuff on an aircraft carrier. Does that count?
I think from the documentaries I've seen there's some massive spaces they could use, especially if the hanger deck has sufficient space. While space on ships is at a premium, big ships tend to end up with some large internal areas for storage and such that could be great 'multipurpose' spaces.
Would a docked carrier, especially one in Alamada, feel any movement from the waves? I've only ever been on small boats myself, and I've hear big ships generally feel it less when the boat isn't moving, but I could be wrong. I know that one time, I puked a lot.

That might cost you 'sportsmanship points' in the tourney, if you emit all over someones models.
If you brought Nurgle though, and my minis were not the target... I'd push to get you bonus points.

Having been on that aircraft carrier I can say that if you are playing on the hangar deck which is most likely, then you will not have to go through any corridors, the entrance ramp leads directly there. You can't feel anything from waves.

yeah, i was there at the same time as ph34r, and the will most likely be using the hanger deck. While not one of the biggest aircraft carriers, the Hornet will be plenty big enough for a tournament to take place in there. No issues with heating or cooling, and definitely no issues with space

Hey its great to see good responses. I'm Chad, one of the organizers. We are playing on the hanger deck. They're going to use planes to divied up our space, cool. There will be some other cool touches that I don't want to spoil.
I'm working on comp, but I don't like to have everyone work the system so I'm not sure when it'll get posted. I like tournies to be more about playing some good games than how many points spent in elites.
If you have questions email me from the Da Waaagh web site or post them here and I'll answer them all.

Only question I would have is why you would ruin a good tournament in a great location with whatever arbitrary version of comp you choose.

(Comp is something of a hot topic around here.)
Can you provide some expansion on what you're looking for in the "Background and Theme" category? A paragraph? A page? (A novel?)
Any word on what is planned for Friday evening, yet?
