Hello everyone. I was just wondering if it would look cool to replace my scouts with with Stormtropers. I just really hate scout models but they play a big part in my army so I am stuck.

I already have the models in mind. I plan on getting Imperial Stormtroopers cause they look cool and they also have 4+ Sv carapace armour. I just wanted to know what people thought of the idea.

well actually I planned on getting helmeted storm troopers. I mean aren't scouts supposed to,well you know, scout for long periods of time? Surley they need some helmet with comlinks intergrated? See another hole in fluff caused by GW's stupidity

Either way will it be easy to convert them with bolters and shotguns?

Then I'd extend the barrel and add stuff like tripods.

the GW scout models do have comm links, as well as vision enhancement, they are just not built into a helmet.

But what about respirators? If working in a hostile envviroment with a gas that contains no oxygen or is filled with toxins wouldn't it make sense to wear an enclosed helmet? Plus it would have visual aids including night vision possibly x-ray and maybe radar. Or a map of the terrain.

They could of taken a drug for the poison scenario.

Scouts have the third lung in them which allows them to breath in gases which would kill a normal human. The only part of the Space Marine enhancement they are missing is the Black Carapace. The re-breathers would be rather redundant.

Scouts don't have all the implants to make them true space marines

They have all of them except the Black Carapace it even says so in the Codex, that's why they are Scouts. They don't let soldiers go out with out most of what makes them Space Marines. Why do you think they still have pretty much all the same stats as Marines other than the WS and BS?

I only dont like their hunch backs.

They have goggles, with what i can only assume to be maps and vision enhancements.

I agree, the back of the armor looks kinda odd, but i mean, other than their backs, whats not to like about them?

Nothing I think they are perfectly fine, and if I wanted I could file down the backs. They are fairly customizable as well, like for example you can easily take the Scopes from their bolt pistols and attach them to their bolters.

If it were me, I would make sure that there was SM bits added here and there. Just to make the distinction easier.

As for the fluff. They must have changed that part of the fluff about scounts not having all the enhancements. In 3rd ed I'm pretty sure they were said to be actually more seasoned warriors then the marines in tactical squads, but not skilled enough to make them elite veterans. That is the reason "they" used to explain why they cold infiltrate and do scouty stuff.

The only chapter fluff I have seen that actually stated that their warriors in scout armor weren't on par with a full battle brother was the black templar with their neophytes. And that goes back to Armageddon.

As for the respirator issue. I remember an old scenario that took place on a space hulk (orks vs BT). Every infantry model was assumed to have a respirator even if it wasn't modeled and they all suffered -1 to their armor for the off chance of a round hitting their air supply or ruining their mask. If you wanted to get crazy you could green stuff a mask on to every one. Or you could get Kasyrkin (sp?) I think they look much better then the Storm Troopers.

Hope that link works, if not just look em up on the GW site. They came out for the EoT campaign and apparently GW still offers them.

I'd go for the kasrkin models, simply add a scope, bipod and a barrel extention / supressor to the weapon.
Maybe even a GS cloak to the model (allthough, if your going for salamander scouts then the black ark corsairs dragon cloaks would look good.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

Nope, apart from a few chapter variations, scouts are and have always been undercooked marines.

Use whatever models you like for them as long as they look kind of scout-y. You can always tell your opponent prior to a game that "these guys? They're scouts."

My only concern with using Stormtroopers is that an opponent might think you were using Inquisition S'troopers from one of the =I= codices. By converting them up a little more (some folks here have mentioned lengthening the barrels, which is an excellent idea, as is adding scopes) you should be able to make it clear that they're Marines.

You may also want to putty on some cloaks. That'll help hide the more Guard-y backpacks as well as better matching peoples' impressions of scouts.

As far as pointing out additional alternatives, what I did for some scouts is to take regular Marine torsos and arms (no shoulder pads!!) and stick them on Catachan legs with unhelmeted heads. Then I used plastic rod to extend the barrels of either the bolters or lasguns, and added scopes to the guns.
