Subject: Question about selling miniatures

Hello everyone
I just want to get some other people's opinions on how to sell miniatures.
Basically I want to try and paint as many different minis as I can but I do not have the money to paint everything.
So I was thinking I could paint and sell stuff.
I want to sell stuff on e-bay because commission deadlines would be hard to meet.
Basically I was wondering how I should sell painted miniatures
Should I make a small "beginner" force, something like an HQ and two troops?
Or should I just sell single units?
The reason I ask is because I was thinking that if I paint a single unit, it might not match a person's army if they are expanding on it.
If I sell a small lot I could maybe get people in who are thinking about starting a specific army.

Okay now pricing.
What I was thinking of selling the minis at would be like Cost of the box + $10 + S&H
Is that reasonable or should I go at cost?
Thanks for any opinions on the matter!

Your painting has got to be good enough before you can sell for more than the cost of the original box. Otherwise painting miniatures greatly detracts from their value.

Painting is not the question. Selling is.
I am not selling anything here, just posting a question about it.

Well.. what ph34r says still is valid.
Unless the model's paint job is stellar, AND is a commonly accepted paint job, you are looking at a serious percentage reduction in model price.
However, to answer what I think you are asking..
If you are going to paint models, paint an army.. a common core. A HQ and 2 Troops at the least, as you thought. You might want to consider painting (for 40K) a 1000 point force (if marines).
Advantage is a small core force, painted alike. Disadvantage is that it is hard to tell what a given buyer might want it to consist of.
Do NOT paint individual units unless it is 100% faithful to a current "big time" color scheme.
Paint Dark Angels.. but NOT a Successor chapter. Paint Uthwe Craftworld Eldar, not a homebrew..
that was there is at least a CHANCE someone out there might have a matching army and want to pick up additional units.
But, as noted before.. paint job would have to be astounding before you might realize above retail cost.

Well instead of just painting, why not also add in magnetised parts and converted minis? Ordinary painted stuff doesn't fetch a high price because people like to do it themselves. But if you were to make the mini special, then it would be different...
