Gear Krieg itself is a pretty awesome game.

I do wonder what "the sake of complicity" is supposed to mean.

This is the Gear Krieg setting, but using Mongoose's Battlefield Evolution rules. I don't know anything about the rules, but Agis's painting looks amazing!

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

The WWII Battlefield Evolution rules are a really nice set, they will make Gear Krieg a lot more playable in my opinion. And with the AT-43 walkers (especially the Red Blok ones) you'll have 28mm Gear Krieg!

Isnt this 15mm? It looks like they are using Flames of War minis in some places.

But maybe Gear Krieg always was 15mm.

Check them out here.

(If I get a chance I'll bug the guys to take component photos like we do for the current Heavy Gear stuff, but a lot of this stuff is cast on an as-needed basis.)

As a big Weird War II fan, I hope this really picks up momentum and gets a lot of new people jumping on.

I've never paid much attention to it myself, oddly enough, to the point where I didn't even realize it was 15mm, and therefore, miniature-wise, 'compatible' with Flames of War!

This picture is very interesting. Those infantry and the SdKfz 250/10 look to be FoW (compatable) models and I already have a ton of those, if all I need is a couple of mechs and a rulebook I'll be in hog heaven.

Very, very cool. I will definitely be looking into this.

Those infantry figures aren't just FOW compatible, they are straight up Battlefront sculpts. I think the halftrack is too, but I'm sure about the infantry.

Yes, just check the site. Agis always properly credits the manufacturer of the models in question.

cool concept but i think it would be a mistake getting into the game, unless you have a committed group willing to play good luck finding games.

Introducing people to games is easy: you just have to be willing to invest in a few demonstration armies. Then people can try the game without having to make the initial investment. Eventually they get sick of borrowing your stuff, and invest in their own.

If I may be a complete corporate shill for a moment, DP9 is having a summer sale which includes the Gear Krieg miniatures: Essentially, for every $100 you spend, add another $20 item of your choice as a bonus!

That includes all but the largest Gear Krieg walkers to complement Agis's book. Sale ends tomorrow!

Introducing people to new games is always a pain... It's frustrating to me that the primary reason many here seem to play 40k is either the background (understandable) or just because it's a game they can reliably find an opponent for!

Agis, any chance you can share some thought on what you think the 'average' game size and model count for this would be?

Good thing is that you can download the complete rules here:
http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pdf/bfevodevpack.zip
It is the Logo License Developer Pack - all the Evolution rules are included and a sample army lists for modern combat.

GK was always 15mm. And since most 15mm WW II gamers nowadays have 15mm FoW minis I included rules for multibased infantry stands as used in FoW.
The book contains all stats for 28mm and 15mm minis!

Why a mistake? It is very investment friendly.
You only need the WaW core rulebook plus the Gear Krieg book from me. Add some walkers and and infantry platoon plus maybe 2 tanks and you are ready to play. You will need definately less minis as in FoW!

My pleasure! Let me make the above example a bit more solid:
In Battlefield Evolution games you get more or less he same game time per point as in 40K. So a good solid 2h game will need a 1500 - 2000 points army.
The above pictured army consists of 3 10 men infantry squads (6 bases) = 480 pts
1 Command Squad = 55 pts (Plus an artillery strike + 100 pts)
1 SdKfz 250/10 = 110 pts
1 Panzerkämpfer Loki B = 95 pts
1 Panzerkämpfer Walküre A = 95 pts
All in all = 935 points - Good starting point.

Add 2 Panzer IV F2 (184 pts each) = 1305
Add 2 Pak 40 (105 each) = 210

Whoops very well rounded 1500 points army done.

Now let's take a look at the investment:
1 FoW Infantry Platoon including Command squad = $ 15
1 SdKfz 250/10 (Quality Casting) = $ 10
1 Panzerkämpfer Loki B (DP9)= $ 15
1 Panzerkämpfer Walküre A (DP9)= $ 15
2 Panzer IV F2 (Peter Pig) = $ 19
2 Pak 40 (FoW) = $ 15

Sums up at $ 89 and you have a very nice and playable army.

great! I love the idea of gear krieg, and would LOVE to get into it.

though, no offence, but I was really hoping that it would be with the FoW system, since they are both 15mm. Walkers would be very easy to put into the basic FOW system, just treat them like cavalry, but with an armor stat, and bang! walkers in FoW!.

There is a Yahoo Group that has just done THAT! It might be interesting to you.

As far as I am concerned (and being the author of WaW: GK I am Sooo biased!) I like the WaW system more. I played some FoW games and somehow all my GK test games were a lot more fun!
Each to his own. ;-)

BTW: I do not think that Battlefront would let me do an endeavor as FoW: GK...

Wel, I will always give a new system a try, and who knows, in 6 months I might agree with you.

It's to bad that Battlefront would not let you do a GK expansion for FoW. the only reason I'm not shoving all my money into FoW is that it's a little hard for me to get into tabletop recreation... It's kind of like playing a videogame based on a movie, you know how it ends... (hint: the boat sinks).

However Gear Krieg, while being WW2, is open ended, and I like that better.
