Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I use Google Docs and I think it is OK but it is also kind of crappy. Basically it is too slow. Now it is run client side, so I figure it is

a) My computer, which is still single core and has been known to overheat anyway. In fact I should bench mark it if I find the time.
b) I use Firefox instead of Chrome.

So basically they are kind of crappy but they are kind of good too, and I was wondering what people thought. I am getting a Pre instead of an iPhone largely because it works with Google docs and especially Google Calendar better than the iPhone does. Besides the fact it has closer ties to the Linux community/ non-proprietary software in general. Not that I trust Google . I do not use Chrome because I have not had time to research its term of use besides the fact it does not run on Linux anyway, or did not. Firefox is open source besides the fact I have gotten used to it.

I mean Google docs are great for what they are, an external storage medium. But they are too slow for me to use as replacement software.

Somewhere in south-central England.

If you are running on Open Source just get Open Office.

Go over to Zoho - they have the same suit of web apps that Google Docs does. If Zoho is slow, you can assume the problem is with your PC rather than the various web services.

I hate the Google Docs client, but since my files are there already, I might be stuck. It
also makes it really easy for me to share with people since my contacts are already there.

Question about Zoho and Open Office: Are they also limited to web based formatting? It's
the one thing that makes working with Google Docs impossible.

Zoho is a web based app suit.

Open Office is installed software - just like Word, Excel and such from MS.

I like Google Docs becaue I can use it from my crappy call center job.

I will be trying that Zoho, sounds cool.

Open Office is about on par with say Office 2002 or so. I use it, it is OK although I will be getting the new Office when I can afford it.

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.
