Have Brettonians been winning or placing in any tournaments recently. I thought they would be more competetive than they currently are and if so what lists are they?

They have the potential to be competitive, but the problems I see are that their playstyle is cut-and-paste. So much so that other armies like Daemons and Vamps can easily smash them repeatedly.

I have found that the army relies on good dice rolls, if you screw up your charge you lose

Bretonians are fairly competitive. They can blow through any deamon player that isnt packing a bloodthirstier (and have ways around that guy).
The problem is undead. If they don't break it on the charge they are done for. It requires some finess and an absolute lack of a CHARGE!!!! mentality Wait for the perfect opportunity and take the small win.

I've fought some very ruthless MSU Brettonians in the past. I bet the good players have probably just shifted around to the new shiny stuff for now.

I'd also think that Brettonians would be pretty damn competitive with an MSU playstyle. I might try that sometime.

They were one of the more annoying lists out there.
However the peg-knights cost so much you really cant do a good MSU army at the same time.
One or the other. Both are still good and both have the same issues (trouble with UD).

I run MSU brets and although I haven't played THAT many games I think VC isn't that bad if you concentrate on character kills. Just charge into the vamp, again and again, direct every attack you can at it, and kill it. You may lose half your knights, but its still a win. Or mop up all the small stuff and do a huge charge on the a block with characters on turn 5-6 from all sides and combat res them out of existence.

The ones I fought used knights errant which were super cheap so they could be lost no problem and ITP when they charged. There were so many of them that they would invariably get flank charges. There were also a bunch of peasants with bows.

Knights Errant are fantastic against Daemons and Vamps, but the Impetuous rule is really a swift kick in the nuts.
It can be used against you to expose flanks, but usually if you take craploads of them you should be fine.

100 peasent bowman - 600 points
2 trebuchet - 200 points? (for killing big nasty monsters, unkillable units like de black guard, etc)
fill with knights and a scroll caddy or two.
I think this build is effective against the primary builds out there now but I would need to see it played.
I would hate to paint that many peasant bowman.

The problem for MSU brettonians is that they lose 1-2 models per unit, they loose the hitting power to punch through ranked units, unless they combo charge, and brets should always be combo charging anyway.
Brets do well vs small elite armies, as the lack of a rank bonus in enemy units helps and the 16 inch charge gets them more range than most enemy cav.
They do struggle vs hordes. I've been finding my NG army is doing best vs cav and small elite forces because I can disrupt their charges and have the rank bonus to stick around.
They panic very easily when the army starts to break up in the later game.

He takes up a lord choice but he can't be your general. He's also expensive. The Green Knight might be cool in friendly games but it's pointless to take him in a competitive list.

I think that a very successful army can be built around the Green Knight.
The trick is you have to understand that his strengths are his ability to take out war-machines, and small harassment units by himself, along with his terror causing ability.

Hi Members,
I play Bretonnians and yes, they are mainly a one trick (albeit a great trick*) pony. I would say if an opponent knows he is playing brets he'll do well but if he has to come to a tournament with a fixed list and be prepared for all comers and then faces bretonnians things, could go badly.
*A 9 knight lance on the charge can be tough to withstand even for a large ranked infantry block. 8 WS=4, STR+5 attacks by the knights and then tack on 7 horse attacks. Add numbers, 2 ranks and banner and musican and CR will be about a +5 or +6
Even a mighty Bloodthrister could fall when getting charged by a lance of Knight Errants.

Why not?
It's a lord lvl character that's immune to just about every war-machine out there, with serious maneuverability, that causes terror and is ethereal so he can move through terrain without any penalties. 16 inch charge range, with some very nasty attacks... His biggest weakness is the fact that he can't gank units by himself, so don't use him to gank units.
Couple him with 3 decent sized lances, with the obligatory str6 errant unit, a unit of yeomen, 40 or so archers, and 40 - 60 M@Arms, and you've got yourself an instant competitive army without the pegasus knights that everyone hates so much.
