If I were to invest in a looted Rhino, would it in theory be a good way to "punch a hole" in and lead the Trukks in ?

I understand that the rhino isn't as fast - but being new to the game - I'm trying to look at ways to deal with tanks more effectively.

The idea is to use the Rhino to make a hole, bring in a coupel of trucks with tank bustas on one and the usual close combat boys in the rhino
and 2nd trukk

I realize that it would slow the trukks having the Rhino lead but, im thinking that with the ability to attack from the trucks as well as provide some cover
would work on a closer squad.

I am totally new to this but have a HUGE ork army so any advice or other ways to deal with heavy armour on this would be appreciated

The new codex no longer allows actual looted vehicles like the previous codex did. You ARE allowed to use a Rhino model as a looted wagon OR battlewagon but it would not have any of the Space Marine Rhino stats or rules.

Here's a quote from a previous post which might help you:

"My first BWs were all custom with 3 Skorchas or the Auto-hit Zzap gun with 2 twin-linked Big-shoota. Everything could fire back in the day.

I really think the Orks got hosed the most with 5 ed shooting rules on vehicles. There should be a rule with orks that any assault weapon, BS, Skorcha, Rokkit, is considered a Defensive weapon for vehicles. Also we lost our vehicle mounted force field from Armageddon, that was awesome!!!! Don't get me started about losing Spike's n Blades

Anywho time to stop living in the past!

The setup I use in most games 1850+ is 3 KillKannon, DeffRolla, RPJ, Armor Plates, grot rtiggers battlewagons HS choices. 10 Burnas, 1 BS Mek, and 1 Big Mek with KFF in the Middle one with 2 squads of 12 Slugga Choppa, PK Bosspole Nob in both flanking wagon. I use the Leman Russ model for the wagon. I also put a reg Kannon on each for Weapon Destroyed results. I run all 3 shoulder-to-shoulder up the middle. It is a huge fire magnet. Some games the Burnas never fire a shot but attract so much attention my 12 bikers with Bikerboss run around unmolested. The 2 boyz squads mostly just take objectives.

Also with the 3 BWs forming a wall my old-style trukks hide behind them completely. One could even give the 12-ork boyz squads a trukk, deploy on foot the first turn, let some burnas or Tankbustas (who also got robbed not being tank hunters) take the trukk. The boys then jump in the Wagons. I posted a proposed rule earlier about how it should be possible for a mob of boys to go from one open-topped vehicle to another open-topped in one turn. "

That quote was from this forum:

Hope that helps,

Try deathkoptas. They work wonders on most tanks.
When dealing with AV 14, orks have a hard time. Your best bet are powerklaws, and even those options are dicey at best.

Wow - orks got hosed again .... one of the reasons I went with the orks is the ability to use looted vehicles i didn't realize that they nerfed the vehicles when the were looted.

Time for me to read the new codex again...

Like I said I have a huge ork army (inherited from a friend for cheap) so I just have to start figuring out how to put them together for different scenarios.

It seems to me that when they took some of the "random oddities" out of the orks codex that they also really stunted a lot of the groups.

I like the idea of the killa kans and dreadnaughts but I'm a little concerned with being able to get them in to do the damage they are needed for.

Currently its alot of the "sea of green" strat and it has worked but I'm trying to figure out how to get past their fricken armour.

I'll toss in a few coptas and see what comes up.

Thanks

Are you more interested in winning or having a really good time win-or-lose? That will help you decide which army to make.

The wall-of-kanz is a fun army to play. When it wins, it wins big. When it loses, well... ...you get the picture.

Big mek w/kff
Big mek w/ kff

2 x deff dredd w/4 x dccw
3 kans - grotzookas
3 kans - grotzookas
3 kans - rokkits

As many mobs of 30 shoota boys with 3 big shoota and pk/bp nob as you can buy

I run a mek with 3 x 'zooka kanz, a dredd, and 3 x rokkit kanz followed by 2 30 mobs of shootas up the middle and a mek with 3 'zooka kanz, a dredd, and 30 shootaz up a flank. Works great when it works.

Having fun - why I went with the orks - from what i read they are a 1/2 strategy 1/2 dumb luck win, if they win.

But I am interested in at least attempting a real strategy to help reduce the amount of luck win

To be honest the sell factor to me was making and painting the models, I swear I would paint others stuff for cheap/free
just for the sake of the build/paint aspect.

Don't tease me, man - I've got twenty years' worth of models sitting unopened in a closet waiting patiently to be painted!

I've got freaking CHAOS THUGS with BOWS that never got a paint job! Be careful, or I'll kidnap you and put you to WORK!
