I've just purchased the 4th Ed. Eberron Campaign Setting and Player's Handbook. After a bit of reading, I'm kicking myself for not getting into this setting during its 3.5 heyday. It seems like a very fresh look at D&D tropes and may be just what my group needs to kick start us out of a long-running slump. So who among you has adventured among the Five Nations or macheted your way through the jungles of Xen'drik? Do you like Eberron or hate it? Why?

***Note: I have the 3.5 books on the way (given how grumpy my group is about change) so no need to flame 4th edition in this thread.

Ah, I love Eberron. I got it in a limited edition box set of Dragonshard, the RTS based off it.

Play it under 3.5 please, it's a lot better. I have the 3.5 book for it, a nice, weighty tome. I myself usually play as a Warforged Fighter/Juggernaut, a Shifter Barbarian/Weretouched Master, or a Warforged Wizard.

The book has a load of information on the various organisations of Eberron, and I once ran a campaign centered around the Cult of the Dragon Below. That was a fun campaign that ended up with the players being hurled into the deepest depths of Khyber to do battle with the imprisoned Avatar of Khyber, a monster I designed myself.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Sounds very cool. I made the pitch to my group today and two out of three seem sold. One of them and I are the usual DMs and we're toying with a sort of tag-team for this campaign, which we're setting up to last us through the cold Michigan winter. Now I just have to see if they'll get committed to the background.

Remember that the background has some stuff that's similar to modern technology, but powered by magic, like the Lightning Trains and those flying ships powered by Fire Elementals. I always found that part a very interesting idea.
