howdy all, I usually hang out in the 40k section of the forums but I've branched out to warmachine for this special occassion. I saw a sale so I picked up two models, Magnus the Warlord and Bane Lord Tartarus. My plan is to paint them and then maybe resell them.

My first question is what color schemes should I expect for each? Does the fluff allow for flexibility or is it pretty rigid? For example, I see that Magnus the traitor has green, brown, and gold armor while magnus the warlord seems to be wearing Cygnar colors. This makes no sense to me. Could someone tell me why this is?

Finally, I was thinking of getting into warmachine itself, but I don't know which army I would play. I like the look of the Retribution of Scyrah models, but have any stats been released yet? Which armies are the cheapest/most expensive and easiest/hardest to play?

Hmm... I seem to have enough questions for two threads, but I won't bog y'all down in numerous threads. I would appreciate any information you can give me!

Magnus the Warlord has Cygnar colors because he serves
Vinter Raelthorne IV, the deposed tyrant who once ruled
Cygnar.

The Retribution of Scyrah was released at Gencon and will be
available in a Forces of Warmachine rulebook all of their own in
September (I have a copy myself).

I think people will buy a "propainted" paint job if it's closer to
the standard colors, but people can and will paint stuff the way
they want.

The cheapest armies to play is anything built to field as many
heavy warjacks as possible. By faction, you're looking at:

Cygnar: Darius/Nemo/Kraye(?)
Protectorate of Menoth: Amon Ad Raza (though the fact that
you're fielding support models and light warjacks might up
the overall price point)
Cryx: Mortenebra
Khador: I'd say Karchev, but I wonder how much is offset by the
fact that Karchev himself is a Warjack.

Best advice I think is start with the battlebox, cheap and easy way to start.

I think Khador is easiest. They have a lot of finesse, but when you start it is typically played as a smash army. The Hulking jacks go forward as fast as they can under protection from supportspells (most casters have these one way or another) and then go to work on the opposition. Once you get the hang of that expand and use manhunters, widowmakers, etc. Doing it this way also saves you dropping a lot of cash at once.

Cygnar also works well as a starter, as they have a variety of things to work with. They just need a few other things then a battlebox to make a really good army.

I started with cryx. While they are certainly not bad they are a bit more difficult to play IMHO. Just charging forward and going "Hulk Smash" really is not their style and they will get smashed in return. They need additional protection beyond the battlebox.

Protectorate and mercenaries I can't say, as I have never played battlebox games with them. Although I can imagine them being on par with cygnar.
