Alright, so I've already covered the fact that I hate the looks of the GW Daemon princes. Both the nurgle and standard flavored one just look bad to me. I'm going to be making an all nurgle CSM army, and was weighing my options. I've already accepted that I'll probably never go anywhere near an official GW tournament, so I'm looking for majority opinion on this, not "is this tournament legal."

I present you all the following two models.

http://ultraforgeminiatures.com/greater-plaguedemon.html

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/greatunclean.htm

Note any similarities?

Anyway, I'm thinking of using both of these, as rather OVERSIZED nurgle Daemon princes, complete with ultraforge wings. First off, if any of pappa Nurgle's sons are fortunate enough to have both models in their possession, could I get a size comparison shot? I know the sites say that the Greater Plague Demon is almost 4" tall, and the Great Unclean One says it IS 4" tall, so they seem like they would be a nice size compared to one another.

Now for the real question part of this. Outside of a tournament environment, would you play someone running those as Daemon Princes? I know there are a lot differing opinions on incorrect sized models, but in this case, he is MUCH bigger, so it's not like I'm abusing model size to give myself a favorable line of sight (he's easier to draw LoS too, and has no shooting, so he can't use that advantage against the enemy.

This army is really just an awesome art project, and I'm dedicated to the slimey cause, so opinions would be appreciated.

One of the people I played against at Adepticon this year used some converted ogres as nurgle princes, and they looked pretty good. I'm stealing that idea myself...

The FW nurgle prince looks good. And maybe look at Ultraforge if you are willing to go with non-GW figs.

I put my Typhus on a big base, make's 'em more vurnable to CC but meh, looks cool none the less!

Personally I would use carrion wing from the fantasy TK army. has rotten wing and a boney torso.
Clip off the legs, add arms, a head, legs, a crapload of GS and presto, winged nurgle demon!

The Carrion Vulture wings and the Night C'tan is a pretty cool/common conversion. Even though you see it a lot I still think it looks awesome.

How about the winged spawn backpack? Stick that to a female model, add sores and stuff and give here bulky stomach and GS a cesarean with a clinching hand sticking out.

could I maybe get what size base I need and maybe the dimensions of a daemon prince or comparison shot next to a marine?

I was always told 40mm base (should be the terminator base size, right). This could have changed with the new codex.

Definately look into ogres, if your not gonna play at a GW with it, you could use a Lord of the Rings Troll all puttied up.

The difference between commitment and involvement is like eggs and ham; the ckicken was "involved", the pig was "comitted".

Ok, if you dislike the pose, its a little too hard to change it since its a metal model.

I have seen nice conversions that used the WHF Giant as a base... Cant find them now thouh...

Are you referring to the chaos daemon prince or the Nurgle Daemon Prince?
Because GW released a Nurgle specific DP for the Medusa V campaign

ultraforge and FW are righteous. ultraforge is also competitive on price.

Here is my converted Nurgle DP I took to Adepticon 09. It is a Lord of the Rings model. Adepticon will not let it to be played next year since GW is having issues with the LoR IP. But if you are not going to official tournies then this model is great.

I'm surprised they let you play it this year. No LotR bits in GW's other model ranges was one of the initial clauses on their license - it's not something that's just cropped up. Good idea though

To the OP: If you want to play in a tourney with your army, make sure your DP is at least as big as the 'standard' one - it can be bigger, but much smaller and your soft scores will suffer for it. Keep in mind that this only applies to the size of the model in terms of it's body, since the wings don't count for gaming purposes.

The judges at Adepticon stated that it wasn't offical yet at that time so non-GW or LotR models could be played. But this would be the last year of that since GW did not want to host anymore offical tournies but put their stamp on local tournies. Not being able to use LotR models in 40K and WFB was a bad move by GW Legal when they did their contract with New Line.

So my plan is, since I'm probably never going to an official GW tournament ever, is to get the Plague Demon and the Lord of Pestilence.

http://ultraforgeminiatures.com/demon-lords.html

I'm thinking I'll get their demon wings to to add to them, and I will green stuff some extra nurgle and rot on them, as well as the nurgley center horn. Then I'll paint them up green, and cover it in gore.

My friend AshAxe uses these models. He uses the Plague Demon for his DP as seen below:

Now, he uses the Lord of Pestilence as Oblits since they are a hell of alot smaller than the Plague Demon. Here is two standing infront of a COD building:

I would not care if you use them in a game but in game terms the LOS on the the Lord of Pestilence is a bit off since they are so small. Here is a picture of the the Lord of Pestilence and the Plague Demons out on our Adepticon 09 display board. This will give you an idea of the true size of these models.

I hope this helps you out some.

This helped greatly. I think if I do pursue my massive papa nurgle idea, I will sub in a couple plague daemons for more competitive games where line of sight to my big fatties would be a big handicap.

You should not have any problems running them as "counts as", as long as you tell the person you ae playing with.

but to answer your question - no i would have no problem with you using any of the models that you showed as a daemon prince.

The way I see it, if I don't let you use something you've converted well, i'm being TFG.

This does not mean build a DP out of a titan though.
