I was wondering if anyone can share techniques or tutorials for Tau flesh? I am not happy with the look of my helmet-less Firewarriors and armor crew, and I would love some insights from veterans on approaches that you use.

When I did my tau a while back I made the skin with just solid shadow gray as the base coat, then lightly drybrushed space wolf gray for the highlights, and I made the eyes pure black.

The way that i do my skin is by lacing a light coat of grey, either codex (lightly and i do mean lightly) or shadow grey. remember make the coat light and then place a slight wash over it, like black or dark brown, but dont place on to much

I did a coat of necron abyss citadel base first. on top of that, i did a coat of shadow grey, with a little bit of ultramarine blue mixed in, roughly 3:1 ratio respectively. The necron abyss provides a nice dark purply blue base that the paint will adhere to really well. I've found a thin base of this will cause the other layers to go on and cover with thin layers so as to not obscure the detail. After this coat I take and mix some ice blue with some shadow grey to drybrush highlight the cheekbones, eyebrow, anything thats raised up. This makes a bit more bluey tau skin than the norm, but I think it looks good. To change up the skin tone between tau, changing the ratio of shadow grey to ultramarine blue works well. More shadow grey for a duller, darker tone, and a little more ultramarine and a little white for a lighter tone. Once you're done, the necron abyss creates a really nice shadow color for the inside of the eye sockets and the cleft running down the face.
