I keep hearing about some "special Rules" that the Ard Boyz judges received the night before the first round of Ard boyz that had all sorts of neat rolls like battlewagons with a Deth Rolla cause 1D6 hits on Vehicles and You can't draw LOS to a Valkyries wings. Has anyone seen these rules or is it just a rumor or urban legend? Where these rules something the GW marketing team put together to help with disputes but was unofficial as far as the design team is concerned??

I figured this would be the place to find out about any new Faqs or Rules updates.

There were only two rules in the package sent out:

1) Deffrollas may be used to tankshock, and to ram other vehicles.

2) For Valkries, measure from the hull.

Now, #1 has been argued back and forth, but at least the clarification was an answer one way or another. #2 didn't help a whole lot, since the BRB tells us to measure from the hull.

I asked for clarification on #2 because it didn't address the problems like 'can you disembark from a valkyrie without deepstriking'? and all the other fun we've been arguing. I sent them a copy of our house rules for dealing with Valkyries, and was told to use mine, since it was more detailed than what was in the package. Obviously, how we ran them that day has no bearing on how to run them at any other store or tournament.

But these were the only two rulings that came with the rules package. GW did post some other bitz in the 'ardboyz section of the website.

I would say you can draw LOS to a Valkyries wings. I mean why wouldn't you be able to? Realistically, you can shoot a plane down easier by hitting the wings than hitting the hull.

As for the 'Ard Boyz i'm not sure.

Strangely enough, the Ard Boyz rules only apply at Ard Boyz, nowhere else.

So deff rollas are allowed to effect vehicles in an official tournament . . . and that doesn't imply that GW thinks that a deffrolla can effect vehicles?

No, but it does mean that in ard boyz tournaments you can. It might also sway your local club to allowing it. GW felt the need to clarify it for the ard boyz tournament, but has not made such an update to the official faq/errata. Until they do it only holds true for ard boyz tournaments and places that houserule it or use ardboyz tourny rules as their house rules.

The UK GT ruled exactly the opposite.

Thinking of GW as a monolithic entity whose employees are all on the same page is a very common error.

Different countries have different tournament organization staff. A given country may have more than one separate set (for example, the US has GW Events, which run the GTs and Games Days, and the Promotions dept, which runs the ‘Ard Boyz).

And the studio designers, who craft the official FAQs and errata, are generally NOT involved in the organization of the GTs or other tournaments, and are not generally bothered to participate in crafting any house rules or clarifications for said events.

Strangely enough, there was no "Official GW" model available for the Deffrolla during the UK GT, and Deffrollas could not Ram. However, GW released a Deffrolla sprue for sale, during 'Ard Boys, and ruled that Deffrolas can Ram.

At my Ard Boyz semi-finals

The wings and tails of a valkyrie were not considered part of the hull. I'm totally sure that someone misinterpreted something, but since we only had 1 IG player and he was using just 2 Valks, no real harm. I'm still not sure if that meant in our Ard Boyz if you could outflank and shoot 3 lascannons or not.
