In a game that allows Kroot Mercs for the orks I was looking to use a squad to infiltrate and I believe the Kroot are much better then the kommandos.
The kroot can be setup to have fleet every turn not just on WAAAAGH. For 10 more points they can even reroll this. Can be used 1st turn.
If you don't want fleet then you can get them as troops that infiltrate could be good for outflank capturing an objective.
Hound pack is fast attack, leaving the elite slot open.
They also can have bigger units. If you wanted a Kroot hound pack could be 20 kroot and 20 hounds for 400+ points depending on shaper.
They have better BS and rapid fire if you can't make it to assult.
They are Init 3 and 4 for hounds. So a hound goes at same time as SM Tact squad.
Strength is 4 all the time not just on charge. So unlike the orks that if they get a bad charge they hang in better for round 2 or 3.
Shaper can have melta bomb, power weapon or Evisorator. So added vehicle take down.
Down side they are toughness 3.
Thoughts. New here and I looked for a thread like this but if it has been discussed then sorry.

Toughness 3, almost no saves, I3 is NOT hot for a combat unit.
Stick with the T4 orc boyz who are CHEAPER than kroot.
Hanging around for a turn or two?
Before we get into specifics....
What sort of list were you going to run?
What squads? How big?
Kroot NEED to win combat, but with no grenades and I3, they will start dying first, and they are not hard to kill.... suddenly you will be testing leadership at -4/-5.... are you that confident in rolling ld 3/4/5 morale tests?
If you gigantic squads, you'll never infitrate 12"... and then have to rely on fleet COUPLED with blood of the stalker to maybe pull of a first turn charge.
If you take vultures, your numbers drop a bit.
THen you have the problem of Dawn of War.... unless they are Carnivore squads you can't infiltrate, you can outflank, but they are not doing what they are supposed to do for the army.
Unless you make a kroot bunker squad, I suggest orcs all the way.

It's not a question of kommandos vs. kroot. It's a question of kroot vs boyz. That is what the ork will be bringing in masse' And the answer to that question is that an ork boy is much more effective per cost than a kroot.

FYI, according to the employees at my local GW, 15 kommandoes + Snikky is legal. Snikrot is not an “upgrade,” so he does not take the place of a boy. You might as well take all fifteen, to take full advantage of the Ambush rule.
