Hey there!

I have collected Warhammer for years, but I'm looking to start a new 40k army. I love the Ork figures and vehicles (and tabletop playstyle) but despise the background and all the fluff for them.

Convieniently nicking the idea of a head swap, I was looking to create a sort of barbarian army? Simply put, Orks with human heads....painted human flesh colours of course!

I can make up all my own background for them later, but initially I need some help....

...I need some heads!

Any ideas where I can get some convieniently sized heads for these badboys? Humans, Ogres...something along those lines that wouldn't look out of proportion on an Ork torso? 28mm human heads might be too small? I'm not sure. Maybe some heads from larger scaled models?

Any feedback or ideas would be much appreciated to kickstart my project!

Cheers!

You can try chaos marauder with catachan arms ( the ones with firing pose ) and just give them some shoota.

Human head dont really fit on orks unless you want to use green stuff ( and their head look tiny on ork body )

I think they'd end up looking strange with human heads. Catachans and marauders already look somewhat strange with their huge arms, and their arms are still quite a bit smaller than ork arms. Ogre heads might be a better route to go down. Either that or use Catachans as proxies.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Definately go with catchan proxies.

Rule wise they could be led by a Catchan special character to give them that jungle fighter feel.

The difference between commitment and involvement is like eggs and ham; the ckicken was "involved", the pig was "comitted".

Here is example of what Ork arm on humans look like: ( actually.... the pic looks good... but the real result might not be so cool lol )
Ah , because the human chest area arnt bulky enough to make the ork arm suitable.

I just popped into my local Games Workshop on the way home from work and that picture is fairly accurate!

Games Workshop human heads, even the more bulky ones are hideously small on an Ork boy body.

I did try something else though, which really worked. The Ogre heads from Warhammer fantasy, they need a bit of trimming and maybe some green stuff to fit properly but it looks really good! They are perhaps even too big, but that adds to the whole mutated 'not-quite-human' look.

I understand you get loads of spare Ogre heads in the Ogre Bulls box set so I'm hoping to be able to pick them up cheap from eBay or a another website....

...then I just need an Ork boxset and I'm started!

You could always try your original idea, small heads on big bodies sometimes work. The Tank from L4D is a pretty good start point. Although that would lead you to mutant rather than barbarian.

Space Marine bare heads are quite large - larger than regular humans, anyways. Have you tried the space wolf plastic heads? Their beards and long hair would make the head look even bigger.

Hm... that reminds me of some of the old Lost and the Damned conversions I've seen. I rather like it, but it is definitely a mutant. No matter what head you use, the minis will have the ork hunched backs, so even using a large head will leave you with some pretty crazy mutations.

Looking over my bits, I think this holds true of the space marine bare heads too. Overall, I don't think there is a human head that will make the orks look like they aren't mutants, just different extents of mutations to go with.

I think you're right, it's tiny heads or huge heads - certainly not humans, definitely mutants either way.

I think i'll go for the Ogre heads though, looks slightly better overall. Sort of a barbaric, mutation of a human. A race slightly akin to IG Ogryns I guess?

I get to use my favourite models, a customised ramshackle of vehcles, play like a crazy Ork player does, make up my own background and fluff and have an army thats slightly unique.

Well, they's look like Mr. Hyde from the leauge of extraudinary gentlement. (massive spelling errors there, sorry)

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.
