So I was watching some pre-season football/soccer and I saw the symbol for the Peace Games, played in Spain. The logo reminded of something and I realized that it reminded me of the Slaanesh logo. It's not exact but the parts they share just seem more than a coincidence. I've noticed other chaos symbols in RL before, but usually it's either nurgle or chaos undivided, the simple ones. So here's the pic of the Peace Games logo.

Feel free to chime in with pics of other found chaos or any warhammer symbols, for that matter.

Given that the Nurgle symbol strongly references the biohazard symbol, it's not surprising you'll see other echoes of chaos icon IRL.

not to mention the eight-pointed star of chaos was an occult symbol (powerful one at that) long before it was ever associated with GW or Michael Moorcock.

it was kyoto, its on various occult books (such as the codex gigas) and is pretty commonly regarded to be a symbol of both chaos, indesision and balence.

Moorcock invented it, and it's SINCE been co-opted by chaos-lovers and magicians, punk and metal musicians, and other iconoclasts. But it's not ancient. Crowley had a similar symbol as the 8 of Wands in his Thoth tarot deck, but it wasn't a known occult symbol for chaos by any means.

Again i refer you to the codex gigas (also known as the devils bible), an 800 year old book that features the 8 pointed star on its front cover.

OK, I looked the darn thing up and you're full of gak.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_Gigas

The Codex Gigas (latin for BIG BOOK) is a @#$%ing Bible.

A BIBLE.

That would make your 'Chaos star' a stylized cross dude.

The 'Devil's Bible' nickname is not because it's a Satanic work, it's because there's a picture of the devil in it.

OK sure there's a legend about the monk who scribed it selling his soul...

According to legend the scribe was a monk who broke his monastic vows and was sentenced to be walled up alive. In order to forbear this harsh penalty he promised to create in one single night a book to glorify the monastery forever, including all human knowledge. Near midnight he became sure that he could not complete this task alone, so he made a special prayer, not addressed to God but to the fallen archangel Satan, asking him to help him finish the book in exchange for his soul. The devil completed the manuscript and the monk added the devil's picture out of gratitude for his aid.[1][7]

It is also speculated that the inscription of various exorcism spells is the monk trying to exorcise the devil out by himself. (Similar to monks who sinned, and were punished by having them write out the Bible by hand, as it was believed that God's goodness would be transferred to them by doing that.)

Despite this legend, the codex was not forbidden by the Inquisition, and was studied by many scholars.

But considering the Inquisition (the real one, y'know the ones who killed people for heresy) saw nothing wrong with it I think we can call the legend gak too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbol_of_Chaos

here are a number of traditional symbols that have the same geometrical pattern as Moorcock's symbol of Chaos – for example: any of various eight-pointed stars, such as this one from a Greek vase from the fifth century BCE, and the star of Ishtar/Venus; the Eastern Dharmacakra; and the Wheel of the Year – but none of these were symbols of chaos and their limbs are not arrows.

ANd from the same article Moorcock himself speaks

The origin of the Chaos Symbol was me doodling sitting at the kitchen table and wondering what to tell Jim Cawthorn the arms of Chaos looked like. I drew a straightforward geographical quadrant (which often has arrows, too!) – N, S, E, W – and then added another four directions and that was that – eight arrows representing all possibilities, one arrow representing the single, certain road of Law. I have since been told that it is an "ancient symbol of Chaos" and if it is then it confirms a lot of theories about the race mind. … As far as I know the symbol, drawn by Jim Cawthorn, first appeared on an Elric cover of Science Fantasy in 1962, then later appeared in his first comic version of Stormbringer done by Savoy

Looks kind of like a compass rose or a star, to me. Can you quote a reputable source claiming that the symbol on the Gigas is comprised of eight arrows? Or that it's a symbol of chaos?

Could you refer me to something relevant? 8 pointed stars are hardly a unique design, and there's absolutely nothing indicative of chaos there.

Couldn't the chaos symbol itself be considered a stylized compass rose? Moorcock (what a name) may have been the first to apply the current meaning of the chaos symbol but the basic design, minus the tips, has been in use for centuries by nauticalists and heralds. The Codex Gigas looks like a stylized compass rose, or perhaps even a heraldric sun, with the ends resembling a fluer de lis, in my opinion.

Wait...I've seen that before too.

So, CSM vs Ultrasmurfs is Chaos VS Law?

There is a whole show on the History channel about this kind of junk and the Codex Gigas had an episode about it. I'm sure if it matters that much you can find it.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

The History Channel is to history as MTV is to music.

Anyway, have we beaten it into the ground, the CHaos star is modern and the Codex Gigas is NOT an occult work.

As for other found GW symbols wasn't there a clothing company that was ripping off GW artwork? About a year and half ago there was some boxer wearing their stuff...
