You're looking for input, so here's what I've got for you: The pilot looks great in the top left shot, but in the two on the right side (especially the bottom one), it very much looks like a grot's head just stuck on to the crisis suit. May be a little late now, but I'd suggest seeing if there were anything you could do to give him a bit of a neck sticking out of that divot in the suit where the normal crisis head goes.
That being said, this is an awesome model, and I feel horrible for nitpicking that because I'll never make anything look half this good! Great job, Luna!

The 'force field generator' is far too long and looks too much like a gun. I'd recommend using something that doesn't make it look wonky, like the Big Mek's backpack.

After i painted a decent portion of my orks , i decided that i wanted to give them a display board.
Then to my horror i realized what i had drawn out is really different then how i based them .
So to stop from same mistake happening , i decided to base / paint the same way as i want a complete display board to look.

It shouldn't be too hard.
Rip the head off.
Drill and put in a longish, thickish wire. The thicker the better as it will help in a later stage.
Reattach the head on the end of the wire leaving a few mm gap.
Use putty to build up the neck around the wire. That's why you want a thick one.
Retouch the paintwork, using paint on primer to not spoil the rest of the model.

I dont have drills in my house :x ( oh wait , i guess the GW one works silly me )
if i attach the wire , ( wouldnt that make the neck too long? ) the suit has a raised collar i imagined the length is around same as neck .

Judge the length by eye. You just need enough length so that the grot's head isn't jammed down into the collar.
If I recall it correctly, the Crisis head has a round bit on the bottom and goes into a dished place on top of the suit. You might fill that with putty, level with the collar (let it dry) so the neck doesn't look too long.
Ideally, drill a wide hole, so the neck can stick down into it.

Looks nice. I'd agree with everyone else as the shield generator looks too long, I like that it's up above his head though, but from the pictures it looks twice the height of the suit. I would also suggest drilling holes in your gun barrels.
Probably just a personal preference of mine, but the Tau weaponry that I've done with looks a lot nicer with a hole in the middle of the barrel rather than a flat, smooth surface. I also drilled holes in the back of the missile pods as well. I have a pin vice but only one drill bit, so on the smaller ones, I poke a small hole and then take my exacto knife and spin it around to bore out a bigger hole.
Have you put a clearcoat/sealer on this guy yet? I would think a glossy coat on the 'glowing' parts of him would look really nice. I wish I could offer some constructive info about the painting, but you are a much better painter than I; very nice job. But let's see some more pictures. I'd like to see a shot of the front side and maybe a top down one too.

Yes its gloss (glass ) coated atm (however the picture is taken without varnish ), but will be followed by testor dull coat ( i always do 2 layers )
Originally the generator was supposed to be 6 inches , representing the force field radius.
However im not familiar with plastic rod / tube/ card , and this is the most i can do without it falling appart xD ( if you look carefully , the thicker support rod
beneath thats connected to the Tau bits , is abit squished / warped . Thats due to me trying to connect the 2 , over and over again till the glue pretty much melted the rod lol... )
Fafnir wrote:So... when did you become such an awesome conversion artist/painter?
Oh, and by the way, <3 Xenosaga.
Every project i do , i try to duplicate something i like from someone else's painting that i never tried before. Its how i try to learn new things without people teaching me.
The previous Orks i basically tried the checkers / rust / painting the teeth + eyes cleanly , at same time restricting the paint time spent on it to below 1 hour per mini ( around 40 mins average )
However , this stupid suit wasted so much time and effort just to keep it in one piece , i felt the only way to justify it's sorry existance is to paint it properly , this project i tried:
Source Lighting: ( failed )
Plasma glow: ( messy atm , but i think i understand how now )
New weathering look without usual paint chips + test paint scheme for my Ork Base diorama: ( confirmed and probably can work )
Painting pure white on black base: ( Tau weapons , looks ok , so its a pass i guess )
Refine the wet blending on the water: ( works , can replicate it easily now )
Now waiting for it to inevitably fall apart ( it has tipped over atleast 10 times the past 3 days )

Plastic parts can be drilled and pinned using thin plastic rod, then they cement nicely with liquid poly.
Put some counterweight in the rear of the base. Maybe stick chunks of metal on the back of the pillar.

Ahh.... the neck advice you gave would be useful for my power armored grots ( not mega armor )
and it'll count as Ork hard boys ( 4+ save only )
Are there ANY grot heads thats not hollow on the neck? Its really troublesome attaching them without it looking ugly.

I am not going to give any input on how to fix the ehad or anything likew that because I think it looks nice and never noticed it till someone pointed it out.
What I am going to say is, that is wrong on so many levels of wrong-"ness" lol. It kind of frightens me that the Grot was able to figure out how to run the crisis suit for one.
This just reminds me of the Space Wolf novel where a couple wolf cubs steal a Evil Sun War Buggy and the other Orks think they want to race, and subsequently they all run over the warboss lol.
