There is no rule saying that you lose automatically for not having anything left on the board, if that's what you mean.

The game continues. You've wiped out everything on the table, but the game isn't over.

Page 90 of the rulebook (under the heading Wipeout).

You only check to see if you have "tabled" your opponent at the end of the game. The game doesn't end until you get to the die rolling on various turns to see if the game will continue or not.

Therefore if you kill everything he has on the board on turn 2 and he has units in reserve you still move on to turn 3 and he can then potentially deep strike out.

Since no game will end before the 'end' of Turn 5, and on Turn 5 everything in Deep Strike automatically comes in, it's impossible to win by Wipeout (aka Tabling) if your opponent still has forces in Reserve.

Thor.

Technically he wasnt tabled. As far as I know, there is no rule in the rule book telling you to stop playing the game on a particular turn if the enemy currently has no models on the board.

Stopping the game with units still in reserve would be similar to stoping on the top of turn 1 versus a daemon army, as there is nothing currently on the board.

Now, if your opponent conceeds, that is one thing. And in a tourney, if time is called they may say anything in reserve counts as destroyed if you didnt finish the game. But those pretty much amount to house rules.

This concept comes up when, lets say on turn 4 you completely table your opponent in an objective game, but your scoring units are 6 inches from the objectives. If the game were to end immediately then it would be a draw. However, if the game procedes as normal, then in turn 5 you would be able to move onto the objectives and win that way. Most tourneys say that if you table your opponent, then it counts as a massacre and you dont need to worry about the mission objective, but this of course is another house rule and needs to be discussed.

Just curious: Necrons?

Could their phase-out come into play here, or do their units in reserve count?

(I don't have a Necron 'dex)

Reserves count as models still alive

Necron units in reserve do count as far as Phase Out, otherwise they could autokill themselves in a DoW game if they only put out a HQ unit.

As long as they aren't destroyed/dead they still count to prevent tabling or Phase Out whether or not they're physically on the board.

Is it our game you refer to, Kogwar?

I tried to fine some information in the rule book about this, but I couldn't find any specific rules.

I vote no, for any games we play in the future.

Technically, this is not true. If your Deep Striking unit was due to show up on turn 5, it could get a deep strike mishap, and be placed back in reserve, only to see the game end on turn 5.

Unlikely, perhaps, but not impossible.

Actually, the rules say that if your opponent is wiped out at the end of the game, you win whether you have the mission objectives or not.

Well, if they didn't say that you could have the odd scenario where you've tabled your opponent, but can't win an Annihilation game because you've only earned 9 kps to your opponent's 11.

Necrons don't start like this. I hope you're discussing models in reserve in general. Or daemons.

Also, Necrons in reserve count as destroyed should they be declared to be coming in via Monolith, and all Monos get destroyed. Of course, RaW you can protect against PO by taking 3 troops, phasing out at 9 models or fewer, and declaring one to be coming in via Lith. Then don't take a lith. The models don't count as destroyed until the end of the game (and even then only for VP), and you check PO on your turn.

In a game with Reserves, you can (via FAQ) take only 2 troops, the other requirements above, and hold one unit in reserve.
Of course, you're handicapping yourself by almost 25% of your army (depending on non-necrons). It could work with a spyder-heavy ctan-led force, though. Maybe.

(This works because if you have no monoliths "all available" monoliths cannot be "destroyed")
