i'm getting the new space hulk boxed set primarily for the termies and want to field them as a command squad of terminators. can anyone take a terminator command squad yet still use the new 5th edition rules? (cyclone missle launchers are heavy 2, storm shield gives a 3+ invul save for both CC and shooting, apothecaries give the squad FNP, etc). i can't see that as a legal choice in the standard 5th ed marine codex so i'm guessing the wolves (with their funky wolf guard and codex history of breaking the normal rules/being overpowered when released) will be the first.

Not as a command squad in the current SM 'dex IIRC, though you can always purchase the unit separately and have the IC join them.

The black templars can take terminator command squads, but they don't have the new wargear rules.

sometimes the design decisions GW makes suprise me. in 4th ed, the standard marine codex allowed every chapter to take termie command squads; the current one doesn't. what do they think people will do with their termie squad with *now* illegal wargear like standards and nartheciums? :(

It's because they never made models for them. I believe they've stated that if there is an in-production model for a particular entry, they'll try and keep it in the rules. (EDIT: With some notable exceptions of course)

Also, as someone who has a painstakingly converted termie command squad (apothecary, techmarine, standard bearer included), I feel your pain

Well, it's a shame yes, but Feel for the Poor Space Wolf Players (like me) who run 4 Assault Cannon Terminator Squads. That is 100% going the way of the dodo

Dark Angel based lists with Belial can take the fancy Termies, in one squad anyway.

They can also take 9 AC Termi Squads, tiny little ones at that.

yeah, DA are the only ones that i think can take a true command squad complete with fancy CS gear (like standards and apothecaries). when i relooked at the 4th ed SM and current BT rules, the termie command squad is just a standard termie squad.

as for the 9 AC, how did you come up with that? they have 5 man termie squads with no option of adding more. also, "ONE Terminator" may upgrade to an AC. sigh... i guess i'll have to use the DA/Belial rules for my BA termie force. heck, we shared a codex in 2nd edition so this isn't a first!

Don't forget, DA termie squads can mix and match wargear, albeit older. So a squad can have some with SB and PF/CF, a heavy weapon and LC's or TH and SS.
