I just picked up the core rule book and Hunter: The Vigil.

have just started reading a bit of the Hunter book, anything I should know about the series that can't be learned from the books, I would like to hear it.

From what I've played and run (used to run a Mage:the Awakening tabletop and LARP), the current edition's pretty decently balanced, overall.

Not sure what else you're expecting, but White Wolf tends to be a bit vague as to what is going on "behind the scenes" in their books, largely to let the guy running the game decide for him/herself. If it is an "in-character" description, then it is often likely to contradict other books, as in their settings, people often get stuff wrong, especially about other critter-types.

Its simple: overspecialize and you breed in weakness. It's slow death.
