I have purchased some models recently and found that the bases are not consistant, some are the small clear bases, and some are the large clear bases. So my question is which base should be used, a combination would look silly and I am sure would raise eyebrows, large for all seems too big and small for all seems to small.
What are the majority of players using? What should I expect at a tournament?

I use the smaller bases because its easier to transport.. You can use either, whichever you prefer.. Over the course of what 12 years??? the jetbike probably have come with every single base GW has produced

I use the smaller for bikes, and the larger for vehicles.
I also glue a steel washer underneath (about 40mm) to assist in keeping the bast*rds upright (as I'm using metal jetbikes - yes, they ARE that old).

I've been using the large 60mm bases instead of the smaller 30mm bases for my "jetbikes". Apparently, GW has changed the size of the bases from little to big flying bases and both have remained on the market.

Its the fact that both are still on the market and depending on the model you buy you could get either, that is my current problem

Just use whichever you prefer. You'll find players using either, or both. You'll occasionally come across someone still using the original hexagonal flight bases.
In practice, the vast majority of players simply don't care.
Personally, I prefer the larger, as they're more stable.

I was thinking about mounting mine on the new bike bases.

I use terminator (40mm) bases for my jetbikes and dreadnought (60mm) bases for my vypers and tanks. I like the uniformity of them.
I know what page 3 of rulebook says, but if anyone tells me they don't like my bases. To hell with them.

He was referring to the new, pill=shaped bike bases, not another type of jetbike base. He just wants to use them for his jetbikes.

40mm black beveled edge bases look right with the rest of the army and seem to make sense to me.
I've never seen jetbikes mounted on the new lozenge type bases, but that would look pretty neat and make sense imo.

I think the pill shaped bike bases make the most sense (even more so if they were clear), but I am not sure what the feed back for that would be in a tourney

I've seen alot of people do this. The 60mm bases are ridiculously big for units, and the 30mm bases are too small. The 40mm bases are just right, match up well with the rest of the army, and still leave room for interesting decorative bases.
If you're that concerned about it, check with a Tourney Organizer prior to attending a tourney.

Casting clear resin is very hard and the fumes from clear resin is toxic.

Since my Army's Jetbikes(Destroyers) are wide and bulky I prefer the 60mm flight bases. I also recommend them if you like to do cool scenic effects on your bases. The 60mm bases give you plenty of room and the added space with the model not actually sitting on the base, gives you even more area to create cool effects.

No harder than casting any other resin product. More of a medium hard task.
Regular polyuretahne resin is also toxic. Clear resins tend towards epoxy or polyester resin and the catalyst as well as the resin are equally bad though.
(Still, proper precautions and you'll be fine. Like not smoking around that stuff.)
