Hello gents,

Anyone know of a brush-on matte varnish that does a good job of dulling the shine on minis that have been dipped? The usual spray based options don't work for us because shipping aerosol cans overseas is an impractical beeyatch.

We're exploring offering historical miniatures (Wargames Factory) prepainted at a very low cost, and dipping seems like the best chance for a 99 cent mini.

Cheers,

Navin

Vallejo Matte varnish is good.

Liquitex Matte varnish is also good, but a bit more finicky. I.e. you have to pay a bit more attention to what you're doing with this. It does come in larger quantities though.

I use:
RI Acrylics Ink Wash (Fluid Matte Medium)

It's really good watered-down or with colour (paint or ink) added.

Depending on the 'density' of the intended dip effect; you can mix in ink with the matte medium instead...
(just don't mix in detergent/ alcohol because it tends to go frosty!)

Thank you kindly gentlemen. We have Vallejo matte in the studio, will try that today (had some mixed results earlier so we didn't think it worked).

Cheers and thanks,

Navin
