About how much meat should an optimal DP army include?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
A 2000p army that is.

Maybe he was talking about infantry as "meat" versus vehicles/dreads/etc that are metal. I can't really answer the question because my army deep strikes but that is the way i interpreted the OP.

In the embrace of the great Nurgle, I am no longer afraid, for with His pestilential favour I have become that which I once most feared: Death.

I'd consider the Dreadnought as a fridge then.

Depends on what you intend to do I guess. There's a few different styles of DP armies. But, don't put CC stuff in them. Sternguard seem to work well.

Umm....what? If I interpret you right then presumably little to none as you're army will be drop podding (?)

Seriously man you might wanna reword your question there. Noone will look twice otherwise.

Dang...

"Fresh meat for the grinder" (the fresh meat being inexperienced troops likely to end up as cannon fodder (infantry usually) and the grinder, i suppose, would be the battle/war) I just thought that was a well known expression...

Yes meat as in infantry, tac-marines (grey hunters/blood claws in my case), terminators, etc. or "warm bodies" as I´ve seen someone express it. Hmmm, it might be somewhat far-fetched.

Anyway.

I´m toying with the idea of make a Space Wolves Drop Pod army and after reading on the tactics forum I´ve seen people talking about balanced lists between "hitting power" (as in the ability to battle MC, tanks and other tough opponents) and the number of "warm bodies" (or whatever you wanna call it).

So, knowing that there´s not one answer to this question, my question is, about how much infantry would you need in an optimal/balanced 2000p DP army? I just want to "hear" your thoughts on the subject.

General answer : between 2-4 Scoring units. If you prefer Aged Kobe beef (read: pricey sternguard + pedro ) go with how evermuch you can afford. On the other hand; if you are just looking for some chuck (stock filler; tac squads) go with what you've got points left for.

You still have to have answers for: Land-Raiders, Monolith / AV14 / Mechanized (which in 5th ED means Meltas). And Hordes (Orks, Nids) Which can be solved with flamers / Dreads.

as an aside; SM don't really qualify as "fresh-meat", that term would be more applicable to a drop-guard army.

There is no unit in the space marine codex that can be effectively used as a cannonfodder unit. Even blood claws are too expensive to be used as ablative wounds. Do not underestimate your bolter-wielding-battle-brothers, they win you games.

Scouts? Perhaps? I know theres nothing in CSM but maybe scouts would work....Or Inducted DH/WH Stormtroopers?

EDIT: Can Space Wolves do that? Idk.....

Codex Space Marine = CSM.
Chaos Space Marin = CSM.
I like that trend.

I always take a minimum of 3 troop choices... for a pod list, that's 3 full Tactical Squads at the least.

My 7 Cents.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
