i need some help on how to take out a 1000 point Space Marine army combined with a 500 point Imperial Guard army in close combat.
this is what i have to work with so far, 9 Nobs with one Pain Boy and a War Boss, a Battle Wagon, 20 Boys, 3 Deffkoptas, a Big Mek with a KFF, and a Def Dred.

Well its easy to see you play orks... but what troubles are you having taking on Marines and IG in close combat? that... shouldn't really happen. From the looks of it though, you need more boyz and trukks. Although just more boyz would do. If you have 600 points left over, you know what to take, right?

Make sure your boys get the charge. They are much more effective that way.

im getting more orks very soon and im just having trouble getting to them before they gun me down.

A Mekboy with KFF will help you get across the table safer. It's even more effective if he's riding in a Trukk or Battlewagon because the effect range is measured from the hull.

I'd say you've got the start of a Kult of Speed there. Double up on Trukks with Boyz (Burnas too, I hear), get a Battlewagon maybe.

Also, a common real-world defense of motor convoys is the Outrider Screen. Take a bunch of bikes, and spread them out in front of your Trukks. They boost out in front, and get that 4+ Belching Smoke cover save all the time, and grant a cover save to the big buckets o' Boyz behind. Bikers are naturally harder to kill, and if they DO manage to survive, there's your softening charge right there. The bikes can tie down a unit or two or three for that vital last turn of Trukk movement, letting you set up for a massive devestating charge.

I would use soemthing quick to strike at the rears like warbuggys and use the deff koptass for taking out things like dreads. I would then make a distractoin so he/she only thinks thats the real threart while you rOrk boyz move up close maybe with the wartrukk.(use the deff dread and some of the ork nobs as a distractoin). While moving up the boyz and some other things, strike at the rears again with you`re buggys if you do get any. If they do fall for the bait you can get the boyz to stomp some SM beacuse we all know Orks excell at close combat. And I would get way More Orks as well. Is their any chance of you telling me what the SM player has? =]

the SM player has, in total of what he says is 1600 points, 2 dreads, a master of the forge, 3 terminator squads a librarian, a stern guard veteran squad, devastator squad, a rhino, a land-raider, and a few tactical squads. im almost sure that's not 1600 point but hey im too lazy to check. and im thinking of getting two more dreds and like you guys said something fast so i can kill him soon. what do you all think

Speed is the name of the game here as is more boyz. If you manage to charge 40 boyz in CC at one time thats 120 WS3 S4 I3 attacks nothing can survive that! Give your Deffkoptas Buzzssaws allowing you to slice through power/terminater armour easily. A bigbomm is also useful for the bigger IG units.

Just from that list...you probably need to check his points and keep him honest.

You do know that that is 1570 default not including any of the tactical squads, right?

Also out of that he has 4 things (not including dreads) that can go into elite and 4 things (including dreads) that can go in heavy support. So I don't think he'll be using all of those at one time.

I really like your idea with the convoy GeneralRetreat but i play Cities of Death will it still work with all the Difficult and Dangerous terrane thats spread throughout the field.

Never tried it myself, honestly. But it's a well known tactic that a motorcade needs outriders. Cowboys used to do it with wagon trains, bikers did it in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and it was Standard Operating Procedure for any convoy over 3 trucks in WW2. I figure that's a pretty good recommendation.

If you're concerned about loosing them to terrain, remember, only the models that actually pass through it have to take them. In a tight city, no, this won't work (unless you have side streets and whatnot), but in any kind of open area, it would be a great cover screen. Just take the cheapest bikers you can get by the ton. Then you can afford to loose a few and still keep the Trukks protected.

well my board is Modular so i'll be able to make side streets and ill just give the trucks rams so that should be able to get them through safer (for the trukks any way). thx guys
