Hi

After versing mostly Tyranids for a while I decided it was time to change my army as I had started to get bored with the game due to my Space Marine army. Not that it was entirely because of the Tyranids, but that the Space Marines just got boring after a while. I recently brought the Tau battleforce, but got bored of them quickly as well. I might go back to them later, but for now I'm just going to leave them. I was going to get Necrons as well, but somehow ended up deciding on Gurad, maybe because of their performance during a proxy game.

The point of this topic was that I like to play armies that are fairly balanced, as in they can adopt pretty much any strategy that I might need to change to during game. But I would also want that army to be fairly mobile allowing everything to be in the right place at the right time as well. I rarely ever verse an army with two vehicles. My playstyle seems to generally be defensive with counter attacks where needed, unless I decide to attack; but usually that would be for gun line armies and it is very rare that I fight one of those. My Space Marine army had a very small CC part in it as well and was mostly shooting as I would rather put the points for the Assault Marines into a Dreadnought.

Anyway, would Guard be the right army for me or would there be another one? I haven't decided 100% what to go on next, but I know that I do not want to do another Space Marine army or Orks (As my brother basically has my ones anyway so I can use them anytime ). I know I had another topic here recently about almost the same thing, but I think it might be a bit better this time as I explained my playstyle basically and are just looking for an enjoyable army to keep me in the game.

Thanks in advance.

While Guard are really awesome and allow for some wonderfully diverse armies (convert Dwarves into Squats!) I have to caution you against starting another horde army. If you've already got 'Nids then it could end up being really daunting to have a second horde to paint. You could minimize the horde aspect by going mech/veteran heavy, however.

Good luck!

I don't have Tyranids, they're the race I end up versing the most.
Thanks for the replies anyway.

Alright, I'm now unsure of starting IG again (very annoying >_> ). I blame the Tau as thats the last one I tried starting only to be disappointed after spending $200 AUD to start them

Have you considered that you may simply be bored with the game itself? Maybe you've reached a point where, no matter what army you buy and play, you'll always end up at this point!

Maybe its the way you play the game, do you have any larger incentives outside of simply winning? Do you vary you opponent? perhpas the mechanics of the game simply arn't challenging for you?

Man down, Man down....

Go with dark eldar and you'll prolly cry after a while.

As if on cue, you hear two people singing from the stairwell, and the door is opened and a pair of very smelly, very dirty guardsmen stumble in, completely drunk, and covered in vomit, and immediately collapse unconsious on the porch. You drag them to their beds, realising that they will not be waking up for some time.

I just want to play an army that seems fun, whether it wins or loses.

The thing I like about IG is: They're just humans. They are up against the horrors of Chaos, the evil of the dark Eldar, the fury of the Orks...a human is not able to beat any of those enemies on his own.

If IG wins, it is a great day for mankind. If they lose, hey, what did you expect from 120 pounds of soft, human flesh with a laserpointer. At least they died standing.

On the other hand, if you lose with Marines or Eldar, I always get this feeling...damnit, elite warriors with hundreds of years of experience and they can't hit the broad side of a barn! What the feth is wrong with these guys?!

You know what I mean? I think losing with IG is easier, the right attitude provided.

Yeah that's how I feel about my AoBR Dreadnought all the time. Out of the last 5 or so games it's managed to hit with one shot. In combat it stands there staring at them until it's destroyed.

It seems that Guard might be the right army after all (There's been a few topics about people thinking about starting them, that I've read since that last post), also I won't be painting camo on them. IG doesn't seem subtle enough for that

Either way it would probably be a nice change from SM, only one army can get boring. I wasn't too far from chosing Guard anyway when I made this topic, as from the last thread I had narrowed it down a fair bit. That one made it clear that Necrons wouldn't have been good and that left only Eldar and Guard after looking at both I decided that Eldar, didn't seem right.

Then I remembered the Tau and made this topic to see if anyone would have any good ideas based on the stuff in my first post, in case there was a nother army that might have been better. Thanks for helping me make up my mind.
