Subject: Question on Fast/Transport vehicles
|
 |
Fresh-Faced New User

If a transport with the special rule of 'Fast' moves 'Flat Out' in its movement phase, would its embarked crew still be able to shoot in the following shooting phase?
I realize that flat out speed disallows the vehicles guns to shoot but I was not able to find anything about the embarked models in the rulebook. If someone could reference an excerpt or point me to the page number in the 5th edition book that would be great.

No, they cannot.
Proof:
Page 66:
Models firing from a vehicle count as moving if the vehicle moves, and may not fire at all if the vehicle moved at Cruising speed that turn.
Page 70:
Fast vehicles are capable of a third level of speed, called 'flat out'. A fast vehicle going flat out moves more than 12 " and up to 18". This represents the fast vehicle moving at top speed, without firing its guns and is treated in all respects exactly the same as moving at cruising speed for a vehicle that is not fast (except where noted otherwise)

Unless they are no longer embarked when shooting, no?

Well, it would be very hard to Destroy a Vehicle in your own movement phase I think. Only Skimmers can theoretically do it IIRC (but that's a WHOLE other can of worms). Since you cannot disembark if you move flat out (baring Special Rules aka Valkyrie), you cannot shoot from the Vehicle that turn, but if you find yourself outside it you may indeed shoot.

I was thinking Orks and Skimmers.
Orks just because I see them deliberately destroy their own via ramming - but I think that is not related either. Ooops.

Woops, I totally forgot about ramming. I dont think any ork Tanks move Fast anyway? I know the Trukk isn't a tank anyway.

Don't forget that if you go flat out and your vehicle is destroyed in the same movement phase (ex: flat out skimmer failing dangerous terrain test), you may not disembark because you're going flat out, so the unit simply dies.

That is a very good Point. You cannot even Emergency Disembark because ED is for a Very Specific List of occasions.

Blood Angels can have fast tanks, which could conceivably ram themselves to death (such as by travelling a very far distance into a LR).
I believe Gwar is correct in interpreting that in a situation like this, they would be able to shoot if their vehicle is destroyed.

Except they would die on a vehicle-destroyed result, but would be fine if the vehicle exploded.

Destroyed - Wrecked should kill the passengers, but Explodes makes no mention of disembarkation, so the passengers would be fine. They're simply placed where the vehicle was immediately before blowing up. (Unless you get liberal with "used to be" and place them anywhere that the vehicle has moved during the game)
Edit: Ninja'd. Also, removed stupid next post.

A Trukk could tank-shock if it buys a ram, and then die from a Death or Glory.

Also, just to be clear, "embarked crew" do not exist (see OP). Crew are ignored for all game purposes, unless they have special rules (like the Ultramarines tank commander).
An embarked unit may exist, following the rules given for transports.
