What is the correct method to deal with Terminators and their little cars known as Land Raiders? Whenever a terminator squad pops out, I find myself panicking, no clue what I should do. It's quite possible that my fears are just that: fears. Even so, I would like a solution to seeing 2+ Land Raiders loaded with Terminators facing me from across the board.

EDIT: All terminators in general, but primarily the 2+ armour save kind that ride in Land Raiders and kill most things they touch.

My current army is Orks, and I've heard bad things about the Orkses and Terminators/Land Raiders.

Take disposable squads with multiple melta weapons and end in 2D6 range?

Then let them die to disembarking termies, then open up with anything really, just force saves and they will die.
___________

Actually, let me restart....what army do you play?
Do you want help with the army you play or are you looking to see what other people do...which you may or may not be able to mimic with your army...?
What kind of termies? Any attached characters?

Which Codex of termies?

Etc. Some more details would help alot.

My 7 Cents.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

multi-melta/melta the LR either with disposable squads or drop poded dread/deep strike landspeeder. For the Termies I like to use sternguard with combi plas backed by a libby using null zone.

AV 14 can be very difficult to work around. Long distance solutions are limited to armies with specialized units for this task, such as broadsides.

As Sanctjud mentioned, if your playing an imperial army your best options are limited to suicide meltas to get the job done. This can be done through droppodding dreadnoughts, SM bikes. IG should be able to use melta-vets for this purpose.

Once the termies are free of their candy shell -- through voluntary or involuntary disembarking, they will kill whatever unit is closest to them.
At this point, the way to kill termies, especially TH/SS ones is to use volume of fire. With a 2+/3++ save, save your melta and lascannons for other targets and pour in the bolters, lasguns, shootas, heavy bolters, etc... Just keep pouring on the small arms fire and the termies will drop. An average of 6 wounds delivers 1 dead TH/SS.

Multimeltas for the Landraiders and as been stated VOLUME FIRE for the Terminators.

What army do you play?

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Roughly 35 lasgun shots per terminator (so 12 lasgun weilding guardsmen @ 12" with an order, 35 at 24" with no order)

9 veteran wielded plasmagun shots will kill a full 5 terminators, 1/2 if they get a cover save.

1 volley from an executioner should annhilate most of a squad (slightly dependant on base sizes)

1 volley from a valkyrie with MRP and a multilaser should kill 2-3, depending on squad size.

I'd bring in a nice heavy support option to deal with those terminators (hopefully when there still in the tank) so the blast itself has a chance of killing em.

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

Ordanance templates loooooooove terminators. Especially the DS'ing kind!

but that doesn't help with LR's really =\ although there seems to be a decent amount of Str10 ordanance, which has a kinda decent against LR... but then again... that pie plate could probably shoot at something else with better effect.

as other people are saying, lots of small arms fire works. I play CSM and i looooove my Nurgle terms, and even with their extra toughness they still drop to massed small arms fire. If you get 2 tac squads to rapid fire bolters into terms, they will take casualties.

I'm currently playing Orkses, so the "crack it open" part of "crack it open and pour fire into them" is a tad difficult.

Meganobz in a battlewagon with ghazgull is the worst thing to ever happen to termies. If the person you are playing with allows you to use your deff rollas vs his tanks, it becomes infinitely easier. Heck, if you need to, charge with 5 or so meganobz against his land raider, then use Ghazgull "2+ invulnerable save" Thrakka to kill as many termies as possible.

Shoot them, a lot, with low AP guns if you can. (this is when the are outside their tank and on the ground. Inside their tank I donno what to tell you, most armies have some kind of anti tank weapon that is at least somewhat effective against AV14, use that.)

MAN units are pretty good at messing up terminators, only you've got to be careful, as everyone is ignoring everyone else's armor save in that fight for the most part, and your MANz will swing last. (although they don't ignore Ghaz's "METAL BOX...ON MY HEAD!" save) And try to maneuver your MANz to block the exits to the LR, if you do that, the unit inside is trapped most of the time.

Edit2: I just remembered, the SAG is a great unit for messing up terminators, true, strength is random, but what's the most likely number from 2D6? 7, congrats, you now have an AP2 ordinance Deffgun And if they are inside their tank, shoot the SAG at the land raider, its a really big target, so even if you scatter off by a bit you might still get it. It's ordinance, so you take the highest of 2 dice, and then there's that "RRAAAGH" or whatever S10 shot you can pump out.

I think storm shield are overpowered. a 3+ invuln in CC is decent, it makes them good at their role for their points, and well worth taking. a 3+ invuln save to everything? Hell no, for these guys getting shot with a plasma gun (you know, that thing that's designed specifically to kill terminators?) is like a marine getting shot with a heavy bolter. Yeah, you might die, but it's not likely.

A PK boss on a bike usually has little trouble popping the LR. then 30 man shoota squads do the rest (you may lose your boss, but hey, no one said life was easy).

Rapid Firing Fire Warriors works for me, but not much survives rapid firing fire warriors. Apart from that I use crisis suits (usually a shas'o and bodyguard). They're faster than Termies and hit pretty hard. I use a plasma rifle and a fusion blaster. Hits on 2+, so you're generally gonna get at least 2 wounds (since both wound on 2+), and a 5+ invul save doesn't do too much. TH/SS termies are a different story. Nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

(Oh, also, stealth teams. 9 to 18 str 5 shots at BS 4 or 5 (I always give my stealth guys tergetting arrays) is DELICIOUS)

tankbustas on LR -> termies kill bustas -> charging burnas and warboss kill termies....or just ignore them and feed them grots or something.

You heard correctly, my friend.

The answer to Terminators is Plasma Cannons. The answer to Land Raider is Melta. Since you have neither, and I don't play Orks, all I can do is wish you the best of luck and hope another Dakkaite can help you more.

I agree so I use BikerBoyz on the termies when I get opportunity shots. If I really need to kill them I will also use my Burna squad with 2 or more 12 ork with PK Nob squads. If you get the charge then they are getting 2 attacks each, 3 if they have lightning claws. Each Termie is then killing a 6 point boy or a 15 point burna. Well worth the trade. Most games I played against them I ignore them and/or out run the them.

For LRs I use BikerBoss, 10 Nobz in a BW with deffrolla (which I certainly am not imposing my view on the whole wide universe Nurglitch) 3 NobBiker mob with PK each, and 3 HS BWs with Deffrollas. Deffrollas are the least often way I've killed LRs <10%. The Nobz and Boss should be enough.

Fighting crime in a future time!
