This might be a very dumb problem, but I am having a lot of difficulty with getting my primer applied properly to my models. I am using the GW white primer and every time I attempt to spray a model it sticks to the model in a fluffy way that makes painting impossible. I talked to a red shirt at my local store and he said the problem is with the humidity. I haven't primed a model in ten years but the last time I did this on a regular basis was in Atlanta. The ATL is always extremely humid but I never had any problems there. My question is-does anyone have any tips to solve this? I'm doing everything that I normally do (yes I'm shaking the can) but can't seem to get the primer to apply correctly. Is there another brand out there that works better or is there no way around this except to wait for some less humid days? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Did you wash the models in warm water before you sprayed them? Sometimes they have a bit of release agent on them that likes to mess with primer, the GW Stuff isn't that great from what I've heard, I use Krylon Flat Black Primer, works great.

Yeah I have had the same problem with the white primer to. Supposedly the humidity can cause problems but in my opinnion the white GW primer is just garbage. The black works awesome though.

Yeah black works better. Another primer you could try is at home depot called quick color for one buck a can and it works really good but it takes a little longer to dry than GW but at a dollar a can who cares!

Sounds weird to me, try some primer from an auto parts store. I apply it outside in Hawaii, where it is always super humid, with no problems.

I use Napa auto parts--Dupa Color white sandable primer

Thanks for the suggestions, my army's main color is Ice Blue so I would prefer a white primer, I'll try out some from Home Depot and that Napa auto-part's brand. I've got a ton of 2nd edition orks and grots I never bothered painting so I'll see what works best for my climate. I gotta think GW changed the formula for their white primer-I used to to prime all of my models with it ten years ago and this was never an issue, even in the summer. Thanks again

They did. The white Quick Color might only be gloss but the flat black is identical to GWs but it primes more models. I only started last year and the price jumped from 8 to 10 to 15 and i swore to never use GWs primer again short of it being given to me.

I've had problems like this before. After a lot of trial (and failed miniatures) and asking the GW staff, i've figured out that the best temperature is 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, with a low humidity. I've also found that the white primer is more sensible to those conditions than the black one.
I live in texas and it's both super humid and hot, so i'm often forced to undercoat my miniatures inside my house ...

I never have issues with GW spray primer...because I don't BUY the overpriced CRAP!

Army Painter's white primer isn't too bad either, Warstore stocks it and I'm sure your FLGS could order it if it's not a GW store.

In my experience, 10 years of painting minis, the temp is not a factor. I've primed plenty of models at extremely low or high temps. But humidity is a major factor. I generally will not prime above 40% humidity. GW's sprays are a waste, IMO(except for the Matte Varnish, I will not use anyone else's) you are going to paint over the primer entirely anyway. A quick spray with Krylon flat black or gray(I never use white) is all you need to prime your models.

I haven't been painting minis for long, but I've been a long time painter of car models and I always (prepare the dead horse for the stick beating) use Krylon's flat primers. I live in Missouri where it can go from freezing cold with no humidity to blazing hot and enough moisture in the air to cause YOU to condensate...yes, condensate...not sweat... Zero problems with it.
