Hey all. figured id make a blog here so that any one who want to see my models can find them all in one place. In here I will be posting my Crimson fist army as it comes together. C&C is always welcome. In fact id like to encourage it so long as no one leaves anything to negative. Ask any questions you want I will happily answer them to the best of my knowledge. And please leave comments in my gallery if you can. I enjoy reading them ^ ^

So anyways onto the models.

First off we have the assault squad that I finished about a week ago.







Hand painted all the symbols on them. Very happy with how some came out. I am unhappy with how my matt spray left white flecks on them. But well that can be fixed with time.

Next we have Mr chapter master. Taken with a different camera so quality varies with this one.



Next up we have a librarian.



Now with this model im not very happy with him game wise. He will most likely forever sit in my cabinet. I am however very happy with his face. The picture takes away a fair deal of the detail but it looks very realistic when up closer.

Now those scouts are around here somewhere.



Fairly decent. Not happy with the faces but the rest looks good. To battle they go.

Now for something a bit different. Only wood elf model I have painted so far. When I started with the orange cloak I was very unhappy with it. Bf told me to keep at it though and at the end I was very happy with the model. As you can probably tell I am going for an autumn themed army.





So well thats it for now. hope I have some more updates next week. Ill try to update this thing every weds so keep tuned.

Are all the icons free handed? , normally i really dont care about space marine , but crimson fist like this is one of my favorites.

:p sure. For the red I started with a base coat of (grabs paints) scab red. Throw black wash or ink over it. then cover most of it in red gore. Highlight is blood red. On pedro I blended them alot more. On the rest of the marines it was straight out of the pot.

As for the blue well its my own mix. Mostly regal with some midnight thrown in. Don't know the exact mix but I am pretty sure its somewhere around 8 regal to 2 midnight. (or 4-1 I guess XD)

And yes all the symbols are hand painted. I use the one out of the space mairne codex. The assualt marine one to be specific as a reference.

Golga , 2 quick questions for you!

I noticed your Wood Elves have the exact same color i want mine to be .

Solid work overall honestly. I especially love the freehanding enblem I think that is definately the show stopper for the models. My only grip would be to take the line highlights down a knotch as they are excessively bright as an offset, and though I see you want to show it out a bit it is not always best to go that high as the rest of the models have deep rich colors to them.

Do I take commisions. Not as of this moment. I have to finish painting up this army for a nov tourny. (augh 30 damn marines on there way) So id hold off making any deals like that till after it. Also i will not do full squads of men. I hate painting the same mini's over and over.

If i took a commish it would have to be an hq/hero lord choice. For me to even bother with it.

Thanks for the comments emp. I do agree with you on the highlighting parts. The only problem is i have 3 squads with those highlights so im stuck doing the rest of my army that way just to keep it looking coherent.

If I ever paint another space marine army after this one I plan on doing more subtle highlighting. Right now I kinda just have to stick with the flow. You know?

Another update here. Being a while I know but eh ive being tired and after the tourny I took a break from painting up things. More to come soon though I promise. Anyways on to the update.









Entry for best painted at the 2009 Great white remembrance day tournament. Took second place and im happy with that as I got the vote of the third place gold demon winner in town (points for whoever guesses who beat me out for best painted.) . Thinking about the model now what I would have added would be a few designs on the cloak and maybe spiff up his gauntlet a little as its kind of dull. All in all im very happy with him and I like how he came out. In particular the pistol coils look great.

Last shot is of his servo skull buddys who I used as mystics in the tourny






Rifle man dreadnought. Never leave home without it. Love how I got the emblem to look on his shoulder there. Had to make the arms myself as im not paying forgeworlds ridiculous price and shipping for things.







Razorbacks, there are two of them. I like how I got the cooils to look. Next year I think ill swap to rhinos though.







And lastly the land speeder. Got this from a friend of mine. Was a total wreck when I got it so I fixed it up a bit. Had to remove the grill on the front. Give it a new rail for the melta. Green stuff the crap out of it. I added hte missle shortly before the tourny as I needed to fill points and im fairly happy with how it worked out. Thinking of maybe getting a few more but we will see.

I love the free handed painting on the razorback too, though i think they'll look even better with some black outline around the icons.

I read that just before I left for work luna and I was pondering it for a bit. If I did do the black outline I would have to do the rest of the army as well just to keep everything uniform. It was interesting to think of though ^ ^ thanks for the idea even though I probably wont use it.

Your bit fu is marvelous my friend. Yes to both of those. For the missile launcher I had to cut it about a third of the way down and remove part of it to get it roughly the same size as the assualt cannon arm. For the autocanons I simply pinned them in place then worked green stuff around until the bridges were gaped. Used the autocannons from the imperial gaurd heavy weapon teams.

Great crimson fists. And great use of imperial guard spares too!! They look a bit longer than the FW ones, but they do the trick nicely!

Do you blend your highlights or is it all drybrushing and hardline edging for the armour edges? I love how it looks on the terminator srg's hand.

Surely you played sternguard in your tourney list, are they painted?

Logo effect works well on the side of the vehicles.

Golga, what are you priming your models with? Black or white? I'm starting to paint up some CFs and I'm trying to decide which way to go. LBursley's Ultramarine tutorial comes out about as a dark as a CF needs to be and he starts with a white undercoat. This weekend, I roughly followed GW's tutorial and they recommended starting with a black primer. The result was good, but I'm just wondering if the color would pop more with a white undercoat.

The icons look good as they are, but I agree that a black outline would help them pop a little more. Have you considered using a micron pen? With a steady hand, you could do clean, uniform outlines in very little time. A quick dusting of your matte varnish of choice would take the marker's already minimal sheen down and blend it right in with your paints, I think. They even come in varying thicknesses if you wanted to scale your outlines to the size of the icon (should you choose to do it on your troops, as well, to keep EVERYTHING uniform, you might want to consider it). I've tried some of the microns my girlfriend uses for sketching (Sakura Pigma) and the black is a true black - none of the reddish, metallic sheen that fine tipped Sharpies give. Just a suggestion for an alternate method, in case the time necessary was the only thing holding you back.

Oh, and good work on... well, everything.

For the outlines on the models I do hard edging. For the chapter symbols I blend. For the areas between plates I dry brush *same with the chest eagle and parts on the bolters*

As for sterngaurds I have two painted out of the 5. the power fist I use as a sergeant for the tact squads the other just sits in my cabinet collecting dust as hes just a bolter marine.

I have used them and they are alright. Going to have to make some of my own if i want to run more then 5 sadly.

Monkeys

I prime them black. I find its easier to work that way when doing alot of models. Cuts down on my painting time.

I do plan on doing individual special models with white primer as ive being watching toutes on them and I feel I can get better effects with white primer. Ill have to stick with black for now though just to keep the army uniform as white would make them look to bright compared to the rest of the army. Plus it would just be simpler on my part.

I am however going to be painting my wood elves with white primer so look forward to that.

I have used micron pens in the past. I feel that they look out of place on models as its not true black unless you go over the same line once or twice more. Id much rather prefer freehanding it if I decide to go that route.

Holy crap an update. Not crimson fist in nature but I figured I would give you all an update on what I have being working on as of late.




Being green stuffing the crap out of a High elf dragon to use with my wood elves. After 15 hours or so I still have plenty of work left to do (first part is another side which needs scales and whatnot on it still.) Also need to fill a few gaps and fit the wings on (test fit works out fine and is flush with the scales on his back.)

Love the first assault marine pictured, the power fist - combat shield combination is awesome.

Hey all being a bit busy and havent updated this all that often. But hey I have new pictures. Completly finished wood elf army this time. Got it done befor a tourny. Did terrible. ONly won once due to a bye but hey I won best painted model which is what I was going for.





First two pics are self explanatory. Army in display baord in a display case. Model below is the best painted mini winner. IM very pleased with him myself. Anyways enjoy ^ ^
